Default engine breaking up at 2,500 RPM

The other night i was driving my 2004 350z the engine starting "bucking" very badly each time i approached 2,500 RPM, regardless of gear. I had been driving the car for about 30 minutes prior to stopping for dinner with no sign of any rough engine. After driving home local roads i let the car sit for a day, after which the car ran as if nothing happened. I have approx. 31K miles and since September have only driven the car once every 4-7 days. Since it happened in every gear and almost exactly at 2,500 RPM i assume it was the engine and not the clutch. Any idea before i go to the dealer?

It sounds like your ECU has gone into limp mode probably too many possibilities but it should start fine after having it off for a while if it was a one time issue, if it continues to happen check for codes or justtake it to the dealer, not all codes set off the check engine light.

thanks, are there specific situations which would cause the ECU to do this?

if you have a cai on, make sure mass air wiring isnt rubbing on the hood. it might have just wore through wire? it's worth checking.
