Reflash or Utec?
Is the Utec that much better then a reflash. What gives out more power? I'm not to familiar with the Utec. Would it be stupid to get a reflash, or should I just wait to get the Utec? Opinion? How does it work?
Utec will cost you double what a flash will. I would say if you are only lightly modded a flash would be beneficial, but if you have a lot of NA parts to go with the Utec to get the most from everything. If you go with the flash you should take a long drive down to AAM so they can do it there. If you mail it your car will be down a few days and the flash may end up being to rich or to lean and you would need to send it back. I have seen posts from people on the board that had to send their unit back to Technosquare several times until they got the flash right.
A reflash is best done in the shop while on a dyno as is the UTEC. Dyno time costs money and so does a custom reflash. In the end the UTEC offers a more flexible solution as there are not many places in the entire country that can reflash the ECU so your odds of a local company being able to tune the car on the dyno is much higher with the UTEC. Also, if you are interested enough you can easily learn how to tweak your tune on the road with a laptop with the UTEC, which is not possible with a reflash. This is nice since adding new mods at a later date may require some additional tuning.

From what I hear, going with UTEC negates all the benefits of factory tunning. IE, you'll have to tune the car from the scratch. I want to see some Emanage Ultimates on NA cars. I'm going to discuss this with Tedd at SP tomorrow.

If you only have bolt ons, it's not really worth the money to go with UTEC IMO. It is a better tuning device, but you do not need to adjust or tune that much with bolt ons, even if you go with things like cams etc... It depends on how modded you are. I would recomend the reflash, ESPECIALLY for the money, unless you're planning on hardcore engine work etc...
There was talk about the UTEC gaining 10-15 hp ontop of the Reflash. I think its worth the investment. You can always use it for FI or some crazy N/A setup. With the reflash dont you have to get it flash for every mod you add on after the reflash? How much would that cost compared to dyno tunning for the UTEC? Another plus for the UTEC, you can store multiple maps for multiple setups (say race fuel).
Just my .02 cents.

UTEC gives the tuner greater ability to tune the car. As I understand it, a reflash is designed for z's with an intake and exhaust. I have other bolt ons and UTEC allows me to dial in a/f and timing. Plus, it's widely advertised that not all Z's are created equal. I enjoy knowing that MY Z is tuned to synchonize all bolt ons that I've added.
Plus, as stated earlier, UTEC allowed multiple maps to be stored. I have 4 maps. Two of them are 100 octane maps.
My plan is to go FI. That said, UTEC was a no brainer for me. Up to 20 additional whp is a nice gain on a car that comes highly tuned from the factory.
I guess someone like myself stuck in hawaii where I can't get a dyno tuned reflash because obviously neither technosquare nor AAM are here nor are there any tuner shops that I know of that have any experience tuning with the UTEC (much less know what it is) is pretty much SOL huh? I've heard too many bad stories from guys who have done their reflash by mail to want to walk down that road. I guess the best option for a bolt on guy like myself is to get emanage blue (which shops here hopefully do have extensive experience with) and have they dyno tune with that.
PS: sorry for the thread jack.

I'm by no means an expert, but this is what I've gathered along the way.
