Default broken pressure plate fingers

I'll get pics monday, but my installer said I have broken fingers on the pressure plate. What the hell would cause this? Its been driving fine but there is debris... boggled.

If friction surfaces are good I'll just get a new pressure plate. If not I may be getting my tripple plate carbon clutch sooner than expected. Looking at somehting affordable to hold max of 650WHP. Any ideas.

EDIT: pressure plate is from the JWT light weight setup. are they prone to breaking?

as far as broken fingers, i would need to see a pic first. broken fingers to me is saying the very outer ring of the flywheel broke, where the firing order index slots are. there is also what you could call fingers where the pressure plate would attach to the flywheel. either way is not a good deal and would need further investigation.

From what he described is the inner fingers on the pressure plate. The ones that go arrond the input shaft of the tranny, not the outer edge near the flywheel.

ah yes, the pivot fingers that control the engagement. i'm guessing it must just be a defective part.

ok here we go.... Good clutch. Notice (except for finger prints) no glazing no hotspots absolutly no signs of abuse. Been in less than 1K miles.

EDIT: the friction surface is the back side of the clutch that failed.

Bad clutch.... The technician and I stated a little differently. It wasnt the throw out fingers. It was the retaining fingers for the friction surface. There are 3 fingers on the front side of the pressure plate. All 3 parts were broken. One sheared like a twist. WTF!!!!

Any one tell me how is this possible on a stock engine, less exhaust, with less than 1K on the clutch? Any One?

If your going to be driving the car on the street you should really think about sticking with a twin carbon clutch. I have a brand new ATS twin carbon clutch for sale with the 1350kg pp good for 765 rwhp if your interested for a good price. Even if your not interested in this clutch stay away from the triple you will regret it and it's overkill for 650rwhp.

The odd thing is though, I havn't raced this car yet. I dont dump the clutch and I have never done burn outs. I was waiting for the build up to be finished. Basicly so far its been treated like a dailyy driver. So I realy dont think its the shifting engagement issue.
The closest thing I've had to a grind is a little pop feal as i put it out of reverse.

I had this same problem happen to my JWT clutch as well. I found out after my I took my car in to get my transmission replaced for the infamous grinding problem. Well I sent pics of the broken clips over to JWT and Jim Wolf himself called me later in the day to assure me that the clutch can be reused. He explained to me those clips are used during installation to line up and hold everything in during the assembly of the pressure plate. He said some clutches he builds do not even have those so they are not needed. He said the onlything to worry about was if all 3 of the clips were not off that it might cause an imbalance but mine were all gone. He even told me that I could send it back to them to have it rebuilt but I need my car and couldnt get away all the down time. He also explained that it could have happened that the plate got overextended and broke the clips off. JWT has great customer service.

so did you have to get a new clutch?

I am worried that this is the problem with my JWT clutch also. I am having it checked out next week.

No from what he said it could be put back on the way it is. He offered to rebuild mine if I sent it to him but I didnt want to have the downtime as my car is at the dealer right now waiting for the clutch so they can put the new transmission in.

35ounces: What is the problem you are having with the clutch? I have been driving the car with the problem and I have felt nothing. Only noticed after they took down my transmission.

Yeah but those clips chewed up the clutch cover and fly wheel some thing bad. Like I said before, there is no way it could have been over extended. unless they are not rated higher than stock.

In any account I went and bought a new 6 puck pressure plate and clutch plate there's no way I'm putting a broken pressure plate in the car after its gonna be 420-430 at the wheel. The car should be out of the shop tomorrow. so yeah looking forwar to see how the new clutch feals.

It started making a strange humming/rubbing noise and slips a bit when it gets warm. I am having it checked out next week. I got a new throwout bearing in case thats what it is (cheap enough). I am hoping I don't have to get a new clutch as the JWT has very few miles on it.

Well in my case the only reason I found out there was a problem is because the dealer was replacing my transmission. But if it wasnt for that, my car was driving normal and I didnt have any problems with the clutch. Keep us updated because I am having the dealer put the clutch back in today and would like to know if I might experience the same problems you are having.
