Amsoil Synthetic Oil is the best on the market. With there filter they claim it's good for like 15k miles. I'd never do that, I change every 3k. But I use Amsoil and there filter and Redline for the tranny.

While I think Amsoil is an awesome product, I don't know about the "best?" Like I said before; Amsoil, Redline, or Royal Purple and the best out there and it just comes down to personally choice.

I just had my first oil change with royal purple, and i was a bit of a sceptic at first. It has always made my bikes smoke, however the guys that at cprace told me that run it in everything and have 0 issues.

Not at all, oil pressure stays the same about as when you run dino oil. That was another thing I didn't like about the Mobile 1 seeing my oil pressure so high.

Just curious, why not Amsoil in the tranny also, I've heard their tranny oil is great also!

Could you explain why you shouldn't use AMSOIL in the tranny or diff?

Well I just got done putting in 5 qts Royal Purple 10W-30 and a K&N oil filter. I meant to get some pictures but the batts in the digital are dead.

I never imagined how much of a pain it would be to change the oil in the Z.
Whats with with that plastic panel under the engine that provides perfect access to the oil drain plug BUT WHAT THE HELL!? You have to remove the panel to get to the oil filter!!!!!

I did however make some observations regarding the oil pressure. I probably ought to start another thread to set the record straight.

With my 2006 broke in right, I noted that after 3970mi bone stock with the factory oil and oil filter on the oil meter:
At idle I had less than 30psi
At 2500rpm, I had 60psi
I never saw 90+psi below 5500rpm

After flushing the fluids and installing Royal Purple 10W-30 and a HP1008 K&N oil filter ad allowing the car to idle for 15mins I observed the exact same results.

I would be concerned with high oil pressure with other synthetics.

They have an additive of some sort that corrode the material in the diff and tranny. Not sure if it was seals or the gears. But dont use it.

There are other, more knowledgable threads on this topic with very comprehensive discussions and specifications for all the oils discussed here. I suggest some searching and reading up, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel in this thread.

You can use any good tranny fluid for the gearbox and diff, as long as its IS a GL 5. If it is GL 4, it will eat away your synchros!!!

you have that backwards, GL-4 is for the tranny and GL-5 is for the diff....

BTW Royal Purple's Max Gear gear oil complies to both the GL-4 and GL-5 specs...

I use RP for everything...

I'm using royal purple in the diff and the tranny..

Can't say I notice any huge difference from the nissan factory gear oils EXCEPT when the temp is freezing outside, the fluid seems to take a little longer to warm up (shifting is very notchy until it does).. i assume the diff is probably the same way.. but there is no way to tell
