Synthetic oil into the motor, 20mins more up ro 5000rpm and low/med boost.
Then into it, full load tuning.
500hp+ developed within 30mins out of 2.6l
We have NEVER had an engine failure nor a oil burner.
All new cars have the initial breakin already done on them. ie no need to bed the cams etc.

Weight for weight, you should see NO difference whatsoever in synthetic or dino oil.
Synth contains more friction modifiers, antifoam agents, modifiers to stabilze the TBN (total base number) and is (mostly) man made, it won't burn any faster or slower than dino.

BTW, an oil ring is simply a scraper.. it does no compression sealing whatsoever. Sole purpose is to scrape oil on the bores.

I have the same problem. I have an 06' and changed the oil to 5-30w mobil 1 extended at 800 miles. Now that I have 3,600 miles (2800 miles later), I was driving up a mountain yesterday night and my oil light came on for a quick second. I then drove home and found out that I had to put in 3 quarts of Mobil 1!!! That means I am also consuming about 1 quart every 1,000 miles. Does anyone know if I have scoured my cams and valves? How can this happen to a brand new car? Its frustrating!

This is good advise. I've broken it several motors this way. A couple things to also keep in mind. 1) With today technology in machining, cams, lifters, etc are so finely polished that there is no break in needed. In fact, if the car is well lubricated, they will really never incur any wear. 2) Oil rings don't seat, compression rings do. Seating a compression ring takes all of about 5 minutes.

I'm currently on my second oil change after switching to Motul 8100, (5W30), from Mobil 1 and am no longer burning an abnormal amount of oil. I have about 3,000 miles so far and have only burned off about 1/3 of a quart. My dipstick reads about 1/3 down from F(ull). When I first switched to Motul I lost about 3 quarts after 5,000 miles.

I check my oil every weekend before I take my Z out. I make sure to check it after the engine is cool and has been sitting for atleast a day. I get oil all over the stick when the engine is warm so I can't tell how much oil I have or don't have unless the engine cools.

The only difference other than the change over to Motul was the addition of the MREV+ which I did just after changing my oil for the second time with Motul. I doubt that made a difference at all.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of it. I don't see how a different brand of oil could make such a difference, especially when others who run Mobil 1 don't lose oil at all.

Just my 2¢

I don't know anybody who runs Mobil 1 and doesn't burn at least a quart of oil per oil change. It just "evaporates".

You're not the first to notice a big reduction in oil consumption with the Motul oil.

I understand it's 'normal' to burn a quart of oil every 3K miles, but when I was using Mobil 1 I was burning about 3 to 4 quarts every 3K miles. That's more than normal. Since switching to Motul I'm currently only burning about 1/3 of a quart and I already have 3,000+ miles thus far.

3-4 quart is a lot I agree.

You could have had a new engine with that oil burnning!

jgray, we meet at the Pueblo track last year, I have been going through the same issues, since I meet you, no engine, no fix, no nothing. The dealerships HATE me, Pueblo, Springs, Denver... I can't seem to get anyone willing to help me, I have a 75K gold warranty, and that's not doing me any good, if no dealer wants to help.

What is the actual milage Nissan says to change the oil? because what the dealership tells me is around 3K but not in writing.

Your going 5K, holly crap, I went 2-3k miles and my engine was knocking the next day, I shut it off promptly and had a flat bed take 2 miles up the street to Nissan, they still could give a **** less about my car.

Just to follow up... The second engine the dealer installed did burn oil for a short period of time, then it finally stopped on its own. I track the car regularly, so I know the engine is really being put through a wide range of usage. One thing that did occur to me (or was pointed out to me) is that consistently applying the heel-toe technique, even in town, may have contributed to some of the oil burn. Mind you, I didn't say that was the cause, but may have been a contributor. If you heel-toe, consider not doing that for a week or so and see what happens. Beyond that, all I can suggest is to give the rings time to do break in.

Keep us posted on your results.
