Default Pre-Silencer Removal ?

Hi all,

I am considering this modification to my stock Z... do any of you guys have opinions ? I've read that somebody has done it before and the exhaust note changed to something deeper. This would be my goal.

Also, do you think this would affect the warranty ? How would I know for sure ? And do you think it would affect the normal operation of the car in any way ?

Thanks in advance,

-slay

I did this to my car earlier this week. I love it. It really does sound great at higher rpms at low rpms it is barely noticable. Only sounds bad if you get above 5k when cold which is bad for the car anyway.

From what I researched on the thread and by asking questions, it shouldn't violate any warranty. The sound really isn't much deeper, just louder, sound more like sports car. You barely tell once in the car unless you are at high rpms or you have your windows down.

over 5k n cold weather bad? uhhh.... I don't think so. My Z loves 35-40 degrees... seems to be a lotta extra pep in the step.

I meant when the engine is cold, not the weather

I haven't done it and will not. I saw 2-3 videos with sound of the mod (you should hear other people's cars before making your own decision) and did not like it. It is a bit louder, but on the videos you can hear a rattle sound like there is a piece of paper stuck in there (Similar to my Greddy exhaust I had on my 300zx- I HATED it).

I'd do the mod in a second if not for that cheap, crappy sound. People say that its only when the car is cold. Maybe true, I wouldn't know & I'm not gonna try to find out. I am yet to listen to a sound file without that crappy sound.

The silencer is there to clean that rattle, robbing ~1hp??? I can live with that & keep the classy exhaust sound.

PEOPLE THAT HAVE DONE THE MOD: Can you please post a sound file, if possible of your exhaust on a warmed up car? I wanna see if the rattle really goes away.

Thanks!

I agree it sounds like total **** when the replacement pipe is cold, i live in chicago and its been about 14 here all week it sounds like complete *** when its cold, BUT after its warmed up 10 minutes it sounds SOOOOOO GOOOD, quite close to a 360 modena, its the exact same sound as stock only alot more midrange frequecny. Go over to s2ki.com seacrh for the 350z VS wisconsins2k vid, thats me racing a stock s2k i had the silencer cut out what you hear is all me walkin the s2k from 80-120

If you bought your Z because you wanted a high performance sports car, and thats the way you wanted it to sound then DO THIS MOD
