Default 20K miles and I need a new clutch, please help!

It’s time to replace the clutch on my Z. The car has 20K miles on it, but I bought the car with 16K miles, so I blame the previous owner for their bad driving. I have a couple of questions. Now that I have to replace my clutch, I would like to upgrade to a performance clutch. I’m not planning on adding any heavy mod’s to the Z, only an exhaust and an air intake, so what clutch should I go with (ACT, Clutchmasters, JWT, etc.)? Would I also need to replace my flywheel? Thank you in advance.

Now would be a great time to upgrade the flywheel. At Altered we have had tremendous sucess with with both JWT and ACT/Fidanza Combos. They will take more abuse than stock and will retain the daily drivability of the car(more-so the ACT/Fidanza than JWT). Do you need to replace the flywheel....NO. Should you? YES. A lighter flywheel allows faster reving of the engine. THis equates to more power and quicker response. Do yourself a favor and do both at the same time. It will save you on labor and provide performance gains too. Should you need help with sourcing one of these clutch/flywheel combos let me know....we are always willing to help out forum members.

how do you know its your clutch? is it slipping? for the street I'd recommend JWT or Tilton clutch & flywheel setup.

I would agree with noah@aam... From my own experiences the JWT with fidanza works magic!

For a basic NA setup, you can't go wrong with any of the clutches you have mentioned. JWT setup is the most OEM of the bunch, CM has several options from stockish to freakish, and ACT and RPS are a step up in terms of trq holding capacity, and clutch pedal pressure. All cost between $800-$1000 for the clutch/flywheel package.

I'd agree with Noah. IMHO, I would upgrade the clutch and the flywheel at the same time...for the reasons he stated.

What about just an aftermarket clutch and retaining the stock flywheel?

Thanks guys for the help….I decided to go with JWT clutch/flywheel combo. Noah, thanks for breaking-it-down.
