Another Custom Grounding Kit: Pics and Instructions
Ok, so this weekends project is installing my version of the "grounding kit." Unfortunately, it's raining outside so I must wait for that minor hold up to pass before I get started. In the meantime, here is a pic of all the parts you'll need. Included is:
-12 ft of 4 gauge grounding/power cable cut into 32,30,29,21 and 16 inch segments. (purchased at cowboy maloney). $24.00
-2 6M 10mm bolts, 3 6M 20mm bolts, several washers. (all purchased at autozone). $5.00
-10 4 gauge, gold plated ring terminals. (purchased at a local audio store). $15.00
Tools needed:
-Crimper. (purchased at home depot). $8.00
-10mm Socket and wrench
-measuring tape

As for why I built my own? I live for this stuff. If you like to make your own stuff and put it to the test you could save a little money by making your own. However, insaneamines kit is very nice and it comes prepackaged. I spent all day searching for parts around town. The big difference between my kit and his is that my ring connectors have a red shrink rap as opposed to grey. Anyway, good luck!!

THE RESULTS ARE IN AND....
HUM, well, the grounding kit is installed and now for the critique. I seriously do think the engine is smoother in the upper rpms. I drove the car hard several times before installing the kit and several times after and there IS a difference. As for power? I doubt it. Some people are claiming like 1-2hp with dynos "to prove it" but these power differences are within the dyno machine's standard of error. You would need to do multiple dynos and average them to tell for sure and that would be a bit excessive for 1-2 hp. And *** for being able to "feel" 1-2 hp, well that's like a .007 increase over stock. If you can "feel" that, your cerebellum works a lot better than mine; you should probably be working in some NASA lab. So was it worth it? I do like the smoother power band, it makes it feel like the car is not having to work as hard to make HP. But on the flip side, parts and tools were relatively expensive and it took some time to install. So, If you don't mind dropping 50 bucks for a smoother engine, go for it! The connection points are predrilled which tells me Nissan meant for this kit to be on the car, and several racing teams are using them.

Look at the other thread started by insaneamine which gives info from a variety of people about grounding kits. I was skeptical and then I talked with two other Z owners at an autocross race. They had just installed the grounding kit and felt that it made a difference. Like any true follower, I bought one from insaneamine. I agree with redline that there is a difference at higher rpms. It certainly isn't a necessary addition but.....

Jamie, Andrew (rouxeny) installed grounding wires in his car and we instantly noticed that the engine felt smoother when shifting. Also, it seemed to be idling a little less than before the install. After driving his car and then getting in mine, I noticed that the engine in my car sounded a little rougher when shifting than his did.
If Andrew is free, he will be going to Nazar's meet. If you plan to be there you can check his out then.

Did you have to take the strut bar out? I noticed this bolt on the upper right hand corner of the engine cover that's directly below the strut bar. How did you guys reach that one

No, you DO NOT take the strut out!
The bolt clears under it. I used a long open-end wrench and when it gets loose, just slide to finger under and slide it out (uhh, sounds kinky!).
Don't drop it. Thats the worst that can happen during the install, to go chasing screws under the engine...
