Default Convert a 05 287 engine to a rev up?

Any way to convert a 287 engine to a rev-up? Is it worth while? What's required, just the exhaust side cam timing mechanism and a ECU tweak?

What does it cost to it? Did you look into it?

It's most likly not worth it. At a minimum you would have to change the heads, timing chain, and most important the ecu. The old ecu won't run variable exhaust timing for the valves.

Its NOT WORTH IT, top end sucks just as bad past 6200rpm's on a Revup over a standard engine so imo the redline is worthless and the TQ is down. At the end of the day stock for stock its a drivers race-why anybody would invest $$$ on that is beyond me.

There is more to it than just variable exhaust valve timing. A trip to the Nissan website will answer all your questions. The higher redline was attained through micro-polished journals and other 'invisible' refinements, so have a ball.

I posted up all the parts in a thread...

the main difference is the lower intake manifold (shorter runners, less low end power, more high end power), stronger connecting rods, exhaust cam timing...

if you want to get the exhaust cam timing to work, you will need a new front cover, cylinder heads, for the rev up cylinder heads to work you will then need to change the pistons.... basicly, too much work...

best thing to do will be to just get the rev up intake manifold, and you will make more HP up to around 7500 RPM....

here is the original thread I did when the rev-up motor came out...

Not when they are boosted though, Sharif has tested it and the REVUP motor made around 30whp more than the 287.

Yeah, sounds like it isn't worth it. I like the low end torque anyway.

Hmmm...I'm not sure how to give up 10 pounds of torque?

Not that I dont trust Sharif-but every tune is different, every car is different even with the same set-up. If he had that experience good I believe it, but when I start seeing more boosted Revups consistently putting down around 30whp more than other setups Ill believe it, its too early imo to tell...

I remember him saying, same setup, same boost, etc. It could be the exhaust cam timing or it could not.

Our SCCA T2 racecars are actually 2004/2006 hybrids now. We run the cams out of the 2006 Rev-Up along with the 2006 lower plenum, ARP rod bolts and stiffer valve springs. Technosquare has a specific ECU program for these mods. We are redlining the motor at 7800rpm with no problem.

yup!

gotta machine the exhaust cams a little bit if any of you with the 287 want to put on the OE cams..

They arent that expensive either...

Actually you dont have to machine the cams, found that all you need is a longer cam bolt which you have to source from a fastener supplier.

No, nissan comp told us that they thought we might need to do some minor machining, but after someone actually installed the Rev cams in a 2004 motor it was found that that was not true. The cams drop right in, only problem is the exhaust cam needs a longer bolt and the 2004 bolt is not long enough. Otherwise a complete bolt in.
