Default Another tranny swap thread

This one actually makes sence.
In the next couple of month I may have an opportunity to buy a fully built 5AT for my Z. As the mechanics and 5AT enthusiasts know, there are 2 types of 5AT's, one with the computer on the inside, and one with it on the outside.
In the worst case scenario, if we both have different trannies, will his tranny work in my car? In other words, are these 2 types interchangeable?

I had no ideas about the computer being in or out. What's a fully built tranny? valvebody, tq converter upgrades? change of gearing?

Same gearing, upgraded valve body, clutch packs, torque converter, etc...
And yes, ask any 5AT specialist, there are 2 versions of the 5AT...

I'll post the details after all is said and done.
It may not fall through after all, if he gets discouraged from the 5AT to 6MT conversion...

I'd be interested to know where they sourced the upgraded clutch packs from since none are known to be currently available. I was under the impression the G / FX / M / Q / Z had the TCM inside the transmission, while the Armada, Titan and QX56 did not.

I would just advise you to get the full details before you commit. Good luck.

03-04 trannies are different than the 04.5-06 trannies. I know the valve bodies are different between these years, not sure what else

If that's the case, then 03-04 potentially has an exterior mounted TCM, because I know '05 has the TCM as part of the control valves mounted above the oil pan inside the transmission.
