Default New Owner, Motor drivetrain questions

I have only had the opportunity to put abouy 500 miles on my 2004 with a manual transmission. I have a couple of questions. I am a little rusty driving the manual and readline in 1st comes very quickly, twice I accidentaly hit redline with my foot still in it. It looses all power immediatly and sort of stutters. So I am wondering is there some sort built in protection past redline? Also the motor seems to be fine so I don't think ant damage has been done?

Next question; if I am just cruizing at low rpm's and I tap the gas hard I can hear a one time "clunk" type niose from the rear of the car. Is that typical for the 350?

Thanks,

Mario

First "problem" is simple - rev limiter kicks in at 6600 RPM cutting power hence the stuttering.

Can't say I've heard the clunk problem though.

answer one: yes, the 350z's got a rev limiter (electronic) which makes it impossible for you to exceed the redline in stock trim. I don't recommend it but you can put it in neutral and floor it and the rpm's would just blip at redline (fuel gets shut off, and then back on repeatedly). Nissan puts it on there to keep drivers from entering into rpms that could easily damage the engine. It's there as a fail safe, so try to shift right before it when racing. Answer two: welcome to the club. do a search of the forums and you'll find that drivetrain noises are all too common. I wouldn't ignore it, but do some research to help diagnose it better.
