One thing with gear installation is shimmin of the pinion gear in order to get the proper pattern on the Ring gear---Thats done using white grease and seeing where the pinion is riding on the Ring. Not to hi and not too low.Second is shimming of the ring assy so as to have the proper back lash--Not to deep ,,not too shallow. Just takes a little patience. But a good gear man can kick it out.

Thanks a ton guys. I think I'll check around local a bit more. I called one speed shop, but as soon as I mentioned Nissan they shut me down.
I'll check some tranny shops next. Sorry for hijacking the thread as well.

I ran Mobil 1 for a day in mine...I promptly switched it out as it made a racket. I have successfully run Castrol Dino oil (std weights) and now run some funky Motorcraft stuff at the recommendation of a buddy.
No way I could ever tolerate 80% - way too brutal, and if you are driving the car on the street at all, it's not what you want nor need.

I actually had a guy stop me at an auto-x when I was just cruising to the start and told me my wheel was wobbling and thought it was going to fall off...it ends up it was just the inside wheel locking like it always does

Once again...moral of this story kids...put your differential at 60% lock if you are driving on the street....and Mobil 1 fluid makes for a loud Diff.

Yup, we just installed another Cusco diff, and 60% lock is great for the street. Another customer has a 100% lock Cusco and its too harsh for my tastes, although he still enjoys it. ![Big Grin](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
We having started using Motul lubricants exclusively, and we have a Motul 75-90 Sythetic gear oil that does a nice job.

I have no idea why the mobil 1 is loud. I would also like to hear motul pricing, because I was about to buy some Redline this week, but I may hold off.

Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant is what I've been using for a year now - best stuff I've had in there so far
. I just looked and it cost me $16 a quart.

hmm... i never had any real noise issues with Mobil1 and the Cusco... just once in a while a few poping noises but nothing extremely annoying...
let me know how the redline goes- maybe i'll try that next..

Great job on the DIY install!
I've had my nismo diff for about two years now and have experimented with different fluids. Before you go and switch the lockup percentage, give redline or royal purple a try. They've got about 5% diff additive already in them. If it is still too loud put some sta-lub (cheap at kragen) or half a bottle of redline diff additive. You will have to change the fluid at every oil change (or every track day) to keep it running smooth. Mobile1 does not have any friction modifier in it and is not really suited for clutch type lsd's. I put a whole tube of friction modifier in my diff to quiet down the mobil1 and it worked for about one week. I tracked it and basically toasted the fluid. I drained like water.
The good thing about the nismo is you can change the lockup without dissassembly. I'm currently on 80%, but think 60% was good enough for a dual purpose car.

I've run my Cusco RS restacked @ 60% for a few months now. Very nice. Almost like having an advanced mechanical traction control. Huge improvements on corner exit and launching in the wet is also better.
I didn't bother with a break-in as per instructions. I did change the oil after 500 km (Redline synthetic both times) and there was a noticeable improvement in smoothness.
The unit is very quiet. My UR flywheel is still easily the noisiest mod on my car.
The only issue I have with the diff is that if I'm slowly taking a tight corner or slowing letting the clutch out from a standstill, there's a lot of drivetrain shudder. It's almost like the diff is too agressive for the OEM rubber tranny/diff mounts.
