Default Nismo Air Element - WOW

I just put in the Nismo air element today and WOW!!!

I could definitely feel it pull harder from 4.5 - 6K RPMs. No, this filter isn't going to throw you back into your seat, but I sure did notice a difference!

I have the Nismo paper air filter in my Z too. NISMO claims 30% greater air flow. I don't like the K&N filters because of the possibility of oil contaminating the mass air wire. Can't say I noticed a difference, but I at least the engine is getting more air now.

I got mine here: http://www.japanparts.com/NissanPart...ir_cleaner.htm

But I found that courtesynissan.com has a similar filter (K&N) for a lot lower price. I can't comment on the performance of the K&N though. Maybe someone else has some input.

How can the Nismo air filter be any better than the K&N?

I don't think you'll be able to notice an increase of 2-3 HP with the butt dyno.

Not the K&N cone -- K&N has an air element replacement filter like Nismo's.

I am not saying that the Nismo air element is better than K&N. I don't have any experience with K&N on my car. I am just saying that I definitely felt a difference with the Nismo air element.

spf4000 -- Keep in mind, I live at 6,200 feet elevation and I would probably feel more of a difference than you would in California with the same air element just because of the altitude difference. Kind of like the ol' disclaimer *results may vary*

The Nismo Air filter is very expensive.

You can get similiar Blitz Air Filter for $30 less here:

Accel is CRAP, I wouldn't buy one of their parts for a dollar! Blitz is a well respected Japanese tuner with a Skyline that has done something like 216 MPH (I think that figure is right) among other monster cars. If you're modding a 96' Ford ranger, then go for Accel, but please never put that junk on a Z! Accel is one of those companies that will re-lable a stock replacement part with their logo, and sell it as a performance part. The only product they make that is any good is their top of the line spark plug wires, the rest (especially their plugs and coils are $#!+)

$87.09!!! For an air filter? Is it a magic air filter? I am all for simple mods for a little more hp, but $87.09 is a little pricey for what it is.

As I mentioned above, courtesynissan.com has a similar part for a lot less money.

the money people will pay for a name.... 88 bucks for a paper element filter!!! you gotta be out of your mind!!!!!! what do you think the stock air filter is?? its paper!!! the nismo one is probably the same paper just thinned out and a high price tag attached, do yourself a favor and get a good ol' k&n filter.
if your worried about the oil contaminating your mas, then wash the filter out, and apply a SMALL amount of oil to the filter.

p.s. read my sig.

Do you mean there K N filter for $45 or their stock filter for 9 dollars? Or is there a different one that is not on their web site?

Ahhh, the ever-accurate butt dyno, a favorite among us My350Z members...

You could feel maybe a 20 rwhp difference, but not 10 or under.

Oh4aZ, I put a NISMO air filter in also. I don't know if it gave me more horsepower but I did notice better response. I also noticed a different sound from the engine under acceleration. As a matter of fact I let my girlfriend take the car to the store and when she came back the first thing she asked me is what I did to my car. The way she put it was the car ran smoother than before and she doesn't know anything about cars.

The K&N for $45. That one is almost 1/2 the price from the Nismo from japanparts.com. Can't comment on the performance of the K&N one though.
