Springs vs. Coilovers
Now that I've had the car around the block a few times, I notice that what this car can really benefit from is a bit better suspension. I've read some on different upgrades some Z owners have chosen. Most of these have involved going with coilovers. I've seen, however, some springs that can help as well and are a hell of alot cheaper. What do you think? Any experience with both. Is it worth the 1K+ price tag for coilovers or is it a minimal gain over what a nice set($3-400) of springs can do. Thanks for your input
It makes sense that the springs and shock are desinged to work with each other on the coilovers. I found a set of Eibach's for $259 (of course now I can't remember the website) which is a hell of alot cheaper than a set of coilovers (over $1500 for the Nismo setup and that doesn't doesn't include shipping)....
I've got to say that my Neuspeed springs and Bilstein shocks on my Audi are a great match and give my car great performance. Damping seems just right. No bounce at all. The Bilstein shocks are pretty strongly damped, though, so I'd doubt any spring would give you bounce with those things.
Maybe things are different between the European and Japanese markets, though. For the Audis, Eibachs are a good conservative choice: not too stiff, but still decent performance. H&R are probably the best.
Don't know how those companies rate in the Japanese world.

Coilovers are also adjustable in height damping and other aspects.
Just buying springs by themselves will cause the factory shocks to wear out very quickly. You have to upgrade your shocks. springs aren't adjustable in any way.
If you want a less bouncy suspension then Eibachs are probably the way to go cheap. Don't get Neuspeeds, Sprints, Ground-Controls, or any cheap ricer brand like Arospeed, APC. Those tend to be bouncy.

As for Coilovers vs Springs....the way I see it. If you dont plan on doing serious road racing/auto-x then its a waste of money. A good spring setup like Eibachs, with a set of aftermarket shocks(when they come out) will be suffice for 97% of the people on this board.
