Gotta agree with that 100%.

 

Well $12k for the car less eng and trans + $15k for the swap parts and labor using AEM from my friends shop appears to be under $30k

 

I want to put 4 McLaren F1 engines in my Z, I know its possible because I can stack them on the roof of my car. lol

On a serious note, its worthless to spend that much putting a 2jz-gte in a Z. Honestly it doesn't belong in there, if you want something fast go get a s13 and put whatever you want in it.

The whole point of a 350z is the VQ engine, bring it to life and embrace its enginuity.

im just saying that he was able to swap that motor into the s14 with great success so it may be possible to do that with 350z, in which the OP was asking for. No i do not think it is a good idea or is it cost effective, but it is his car and his money. I think it would be a pretty cool undertaking if he has the time and money for it. Top Secret has been doing these kind of crazy *** swaps for years and i don't see anyone hatting on them

It would be better to go RB26 if you want to swap. There're already a few of them done, so you don't need to do any r&d, and it'll be just as strong as the 2JZ motor.

 

 

Do that many people on this forum really have to whine about someone doing something like this? He asked for some information about it not for you to comment if you thought it was dumb or if your jealous about it. If you think he's so dumb for doing it and this thread is an insult to you don't bother reading it in the first place and don't waste your time commenting on it.

 

He wants to do something different and it sounds like a cool idea to me and if he was that worried about the costs I'm guessing he wouldn't do it, worry about your own money issues if you have them don't worry about them for other people.

There's a local guy here with a 240z running 9's at 140 on a 2jz. It was a custom swap involving fabrication but it was well worth it IMO. The VQ motor is great! But 130mph traps are something not seen on VQ motors on 350z's to my own eyes.

 

fine you can get the motor, how are you going to mate up the motor to the ecm on the z?

I have talked to some other shops using the AEM on the Z and I should be able to tie it all together, but it will be a process. I am not doing the work, the shop will be.

The RB26 is another possibilty, but after owning 3 Supras and taking it to a shop that works on both we are leaning to the 2jz-gte because we have one in hand and both will require fab work and a wiring nightmare.

 

It will be tough but I think that would be worth it in the end, just because of how different it is. Could be a popular car here in the end.

 

the 240 has a little more room to play with where the z is barely in there stock
