Changed my diff oil a lil earlier today, used valvoline 75w90 gl-5 oil, and a 10 $ sucktion pump from autozone. Took like 20 minutes. The car seems to roll easier now, but aside from that i can't really tell too much of a diffrence, but that might b also cuz i just replaces the fly and clutch so im still not used to how the car feels now, anyways def. a good piece of maintaince to do...the old oil looked like ****.

Are any of you guys that went with royal purple or redline getting any grinding or anything when the car isnt warmed up yet?? Also, are the crush washers the same as the ones used when changing the engine oil??

No, and the correct part number for the tranny and diff washers is listed in this thread towards the end...:

Yes. On an hot day (over 100 F) my diff is pretty quiet from the start. But during the cold, you will definitely hear the clutches in the diff popping everytime they slip. Sounds like the car is broken. If you disengage the clutch too fast (yes, you can) it may jolt the rear axles and cause your abs to kick on. it will sound like a fan just turned on under the hood, a "HHMMMMMMM" sound.

Im going to the diff, tranny,(royal purple max gear) and clutch fluid(motul), including a SS clutch line, probably this weekend, if not next. I hope I get some good results like some of the others did.

Thinking of doing this as well. I have 27k miles and haven't changed the tranny or diff. fluid, but my car runs fine. My car is Vortech'd, so what do you guys suggest for Tranny and Diff fluid? I can get the OEM Nissan fluid for cheap though. Also, how many quarts of each do I need?

If you read the whole thread, there are some references to other threads where suggested fluids etc. are cited.

Also, for recommended fluids for the 350z check the top 100 questions thread (link in my signature)

Ya, I read through this thread and the two other ones referenced. I understand a lot of people like Redline Synthetic and I noticed that is what you used. Can you tell me if there is any benefit of the Redline stuff over the OEM fluids? I was asking in regards to a FI car, since no one really specifies that in any thread.

Synthetic is definitely better than OEM fluids... at least in my opinion...

simple: tranny shifts smoother, and diff rolls easier with less friction...

Should last a good 100k miles too

Thanks Wired. Where did you get the Redline? Also, why did you go with a 75W diff. oil rather than the suggested 80W?

Summit racing.

I think I read something on Redline's website about how their 75W-90 outperforms 80W-90 ...

In any case, it shouldn't make much of a difference...

I've done this in my 240sx and I can vouch for the difference this makes. I've got everything but the crush washers at the house, so I'll be tackling this pretty soon.

I just bought some 75-90 for the diff, but the guy at the counter told me there are 2 different kinds of it. One with friction additive and one without. Which is best?

Not 100% sure, but I think:

if you have the base model, you don't have the VLSD, and you should not get the friction modifier

If you don't have the base model (You have the VLSD) you *should* get the friction modifier for LSD's

Well, which one did you get? The one without friction modifier says 75w-90Ns and the one with it has no NS. I have VLSD, so I got the one without NS.
