Default idle problems

I bought my car wrecked and it was hit in the back. I had to replace the emissions box that leads to the gas tank and is bolted on the right side of the car. Anyway the car would run good before I put it on. I put it on, but still haven't been able to replace one of the hoses yet. I did that a little bit ago and it started idling a little hard when I first started it. Well it had to sit out today because I had to paint my dad's bumper cover. It was cold and when I went to put it in I started it and it idled awful. I sounded like it had a huge cam in it. I was real slow to rev and when I let off it would go down to just a few hundred rpms and sputter then pull up to 500 then ease back down. I went ahead and pulled it in and it was smoking pretty bad. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks and please help if you can.

One of the hoses back there has engine vacuum on it. Doublecheck the correct placement of the hoses, and ensure that the solenoids are properly installed with their o-rings intact and the electrical connectors plugged in.

I started it today and it wasn't as bad so I let it idle for a few minutes and it smoothed out. Any idea why it would idle rough for a few minutes at first startup?

Could be a leaking injector allowing fuel to collect in the cylinder while the car is parked causing it not to fire properly once you starty it. Once the excess fuel burns off, that cylinder runs normally. Just a guess.

Wouldn't that throw an SES light?
