Default What is a "double clutch."

And not the verb but the noun.
I think it's twin-disc, right?
But what are the benefits/setbacks of this setup?

Double-clutch isn't a noun.... unless someone is misusing the term

I've never heard of it.

getting accurate information is much better.

any post that includes, or starts with the words "double clutch" is asking for trouble. better to not. when you use google, 9 out of 10 times it brings you to a automotive terminology or explaination site with pictures.

check this ****: 10 seconds :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_declutch

the only Noun version of double clutch I found was a Nike shoe product. if that is what you are looking for I suggest www.footlocker.com

stick to autonomous machines for lame questions and leave the social interactions for good ones

Erm there are acutally double disc clutch setups, if i remember right 928s used them in the GTS models. I found what it is, what i thought. It uses two clutch plates, they used them in the older 928s because there were no aftermarket clutches and they held more power. These clutches if i remember have to be aligned or they will wear out in like 5000 miles, its really not worth using one, unless you cant find a single plate.

Here is a picture of it also, http://www.tpub.com/content/construc.../14273_134.htm

The double-disc clutch is substantially the same as the single disc, except that another driven disc and an intermediate driving plate are added.

and it isn't called a double clutch disc clutch. or double disc clutch.

it is a twin plate.

and Audi/VW has a DSG transmission, which again, is still not called a double clutch-clutch.
