been considering removing the AC, but not 100% sure if that'd mean the heater won't work then

Why would you remove the a/c? Is it for weight savings?

well I've been realizing that I don't really drive my Z much in the summer during the day at least. When I run the AC, it just brings the coolant and oil temps up a little and I can swear I feel a loss in power. I figure if I want to get colder in the spring or winter I'll just lower a window.

otherwise when I use it I never turn it up full blast because it raises the temps too much in the summer. So I end up having it on just a little bit. I have other cars I drive to work etc with great AC's and no issues. Might as well save 20 lbs and gain a hp or two.

I just don't want to remove it to find out the heater will not work anymore - because I rely on that to help cool the engine sometimes. But even still, I might consider removing it still even if there is no more heater

Ive been thinking of removing the AC as well, not for weight savings really but to free up power. Anyone know how much power approx it will free up?

If your really worried about it remove the belt. Just the compressor wont be enough. You need to take out everything under the hood for the a/c system. You can maybe save around 80 pounds.

everyone has a different opinion on how much weight it saves

I've read from the people who have done it that it saves 20-30 lbs.

Then there's other people who have't done it say it'll save anywhere from 35-80 lbs. I've heard a lot of 60 lb figures thrown around too by people
it's just the compressor and some piping right? I can't believe it'd weigh a HUGE amount

I've seen a dyno where someone gained 8whp NA by removing the AC assembly. But then other people have claimed it'd be way less than that - like 2whp because the AC pulley is really lightweight etc when it's turned off

the compressor is heavy..the lines weigh next to nothing

the heat has nothing to do with the a/c

the compressor weighs about 25lbs. & is very easy to remove from underneath and you'll also need to get a smaller belt.
unless you're really intent on that weight savings I'd just buy the smaller belt & bypass the a/c pulley.
This will leave the compressor & hoses intact, with no need to lose all the refrigerant.
no matter which route you choose, your heat will work the same.

if you have a vortech, no problem, but with any TT the plumbing will be in the way.

You will honeslty probably not notice a diffrence. It is only worth pulling it all out if your going to gut the car. Pull your stero out and everything, sound deading. To me just removing the a/c compressor is retarded. If your going to do that gut the damn car and get it overwith. If you ever want to sell it goodluck explaning that you yanked the a/c out of the car for like 1 horsepower. I hate when i get older cars with the a/c taken out. Instead of saving weight just add more horsepower.

I agree to a point. If you are gutting the car, its a logical step. I would bet you could cut 500-750lbs by Gutting the Car and replacing everything with Carbon Fiber / Lexan.
