no the driveshaft spins and takes a certain amount of force to turn it

anything from the crankshaft to the diff, 1 lb is roughly equal to 7 lbs dead weight

1 lb from the diff to the wheel hubs is roughly = to 3 lbs dead weight

Interesting,I was thinking that lack of diameter ---say --1.5" radius and vertually no weight would have minimal effect as opposed to something the same weight but having a radius of -- say ---12.0".

Back in my Mustang 5.0 days we swapped in an aluminum driveshaft for more strength and less rotational weight. As already stated, less rotational weight is just as good if not better than unsprung weight.

The GTO guys are swapping to one piece mainly for balance issues at high speeds.

With that said, I think a little lighter flywheel would be better money spent.

the driveshaft is like a 3 inch diameter.

I agree that I don't think it'd make that drastic of a difference unless the driveshaft was steel or something

I got it mainly to simplify things and b/c it was alot stronger, lighter and supposed to be better for high RPM use.
