Is anyone elses gearbox notchy?
So I have about 10K on my new transmission and its feeling notchy inbetween shifts. It doesnt seem so bad when I am going up gears but when downshifting it just doesnt feel very smooth.
Is this the way Nissan tranny's are or could it have something to do with the syncro's? Does anyone else experience this?
I took my car back the dealer a couple months ago and they said everything was fine so maybe I am just still used to Honda's.

Dont compare Honda trannies to Nissan trannies, they are completely different. Honda trannies have shifter cables, or shift linkages. The shifters and trannies are not directly attached. The shifter in your Z, its actually INSIDE your transmission. All the vibrations your shifter gives off, is because of that. Yes our trannies are known to be very notchy, specially when cold. Our clutches and gears are extremely loud, but I just take it as the nature of the beast. Nissan could of done a little better on the dampening, but its all gravy. Unless your gears are grinding on normal shifts, dont be worried and just drive the damn thing.

Yeah, it's notchy as hell. Nissan does this with a lot of thier cars. I used to have a 99' Maxima 5spd, and same notchiness. I buddy of mine has a Atlima SE-R 05', same thing. It's natural for nissans.

My opinion is that the notchy (or double-click) is a result of resistance that requires increased shifting effort.
It seems logical to me that it impairs shifting efficiency.
Can you honestly say that you are comfortable power-shifting this car ? If you power-shift often, have you ever missed (a gear) ?
(maybe I got a lemon)

Much of the notchiness would be reduced, if Nissan hadn't made the shifter lever so short on the Z and G. However, people assume a short shifter somehow implies "performance" therefore they'd moan if the shifter was 1"-1.5" taller.

I second that ^ my car has bout 7000 miles on it and when I first got it
it was pretty damn notchy, its starting to ease out now !!!! woohooo!
