Default Oil Scrapers?

Why has no one came out with an oil scraper kit yet for our car?

Maybe it is called a crank scraper but it is basically a plate that mounts near the girdle that is designed to wipe the excess oil off of the crank counterweights and connecting rods in order to prevent the forming of mistive oil which can cause a loss in power.

From what I know they have seen horsepower gains from this mod along with cooler oil temps. The main reason quite a few companies stay away from them is becuase if your design is off it can cost you a motor.

There are two designs:

Contact and non-contact.

The contact version is usually a form of plastic if I am not mistaken which wears away to the exact profile of the rotating assembly while the non-contact is generally sheet metal that is within a couple thousandths of an inch.

Anyone heard of these?

Also kinda like a windage tray---As far as a windage tray there is one pretty much on the Z ---I dont believe the Z really needs a scraper, Things are pretty "compact " on the Z bottom end and even designing one would be a hassle compared to the benifits

I don't believe that a scraper is needed either but I am just interested to see if anyone has developed one or even considered one. It is something i have never cam across on the boards yet.

+1 to windage tray.

I came to understand this when I ordered my oil pan spacer kit. In which I'll be installing this weekend coming up. The instructions say that some 04+ models (I have 05 model) have one and that it was an option to reinstall but you would need to install it backwards if you wanted to keep it and you would only be able to put back 2 of the 4 bolts. I think I'm going to leave it off.

I'll get back to you on that. The direction say you have to move this windage tray to get to the oil pick up tube to install the oil pickup spacer.

Old school technology.
Proper block design re: crankcase volume/oil pan/oil level clearance makes this domestic v8 bandaid un-necessary.

Interesting but not to my knowledge. The pick-up tube is readily accessable when u drop the pan with no obstructions----Held in place by 2, 12 mm head bolts

Thats what I felt also ---Apples and Oranges as far as the oil sling and turbulence prob of the old engines

the Z basically already has a windage tray. windage trays keep the oil in the pan from splashing back onto the crank due to oil flying off the crank or rods.
block design would have to be incredibly trick to cure this in any motor. a simple stamped windage tray cures this and is cheap. if nissan could have possibly developed the motor to not need it, it obviously would not have it. doesn't matter new motor or old, the VQ35 just comes with one, and many styles available to retro fit for "old school" V-8.

Just run synthetic oil no need keep deposits out of motor and helps it run cooler with less friction.

Well it said that SOME 04+ models have them so I don't know what the case is. Like they say every motor is different.

afaik the VQ35 has a built in windage tray. No need for a scraper.

Also, for those interested in knowing and didn't know already, the VQ35 has piston oil squirters

So the instructions I have from AAM oil pan spacer says if you choose to put this back you would have to put it in backwards but only 2 of the 4 bolts will go back.

So what are your opinions, should I put it back or leave it out?

As I said --I have to see a picture of what they are refering to ---I have never seen anything in the Z motor that should be in the way of the tube spacer. Doesnt mean it dosnt exist, just that it has never been a Z motor Iv opened up. If I see it , I will know what its purpose is, wheather I have seen one or not, and can give an opinion

I would think that putting a windage tray on backwards would be bad as they are somewhat used to direct oil back to the pick up if I am not mistaken.

A windage tray sits just below the Crank and eliminates turbulence caused by the spinning Crank
A scrapper is cut preciselly to the shape of the Crank in a Male/Female fashon and "scraps" the excess oil off the Crank that was claimed to rob HP from the earlier Detroit Motors.

As claimed above --The Z uses a squirt system that eliminates the old fashion splash systems that just dropped oil from the Valley down to the rods
