Default Is my tranny blown???

Before I start, I searched to no avail, so please dont flame! Anyway, on my way back home from the Thanksgiving, I was gettting on the Interstate ramp and was shifting into Third when I noticed that my shift **** was free flowing not connected to anything. My car is still in second, but I have no way of shifting or taking it out of gear. It sounds like the shifting forks, connecting rods or the shift linkage is finished, but I not the most mechanically inclined. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

TSG

have you checked the bolt that connects the shifter to the shift-rod? It may have fallen out or just broke. If you've never seen it before, you have to get under the car remove the rubber boot above the driveshaft.

Could you put the car in any other gear? Or was it stuck in second?

Well, I found out it was the Hex Bolt and nope Nissan wont cover it! They say they only warrant the interior conponents of the tranny. I was furious, they also said it was a result of hard, speed shifting! I only had my car for 6 months and dont speed shift or throw it in gear like I see some others do.

Good deal, cheap fix. When you install the new bolt make sure to put some "blue" loctite on it before installation. Torque the bolt to 10ft lbs.
