I run motul 8100 and am pleased with it.

 

Mobil 1 0-40 for me...It has performed well and you can find it at most Auto Zones

 

I am currently runnin valvoline synpower this time around because it was on sale and I needed to get rid of the royal purple... my friend who works as an oil change mechanic told me normally when you drain oil, if it has been in there a long time, a kind of foam forms ontop of the oil as it drains. My royal purple was in there for less than 3000 miles and the whole top of the container was like a foamy bubble stuff. Next change is gonna be mobil 1 5w30, i've always loved mobil 1, but I do run motul in my motorcycle. 2 great oils, but motul is hard to find around here in a 5w30 for me. My friend can hook me up with some amzoil and I think I am gonna get that and see how it runs sometime.

 

Has anyone done an analysis of 300V on an NA engine? We usually suggest 8100 for NA engines, except during track events, where we always use 300V.

 

german castrol 0w30, m1 0w40, penzoil platinum 5w30, amsoil 5w30 are the only oils i would use in my car. all have been proven to work very well with the VQ. the 300v is fine but you can get better for less. RP is really thin, i wouldnt use it unless you change the oil every 2.5k.

 

Sharif, If you look at the thread that Resolute posted you'll see my results of both 300v and 8100 on a 2003 NA VQ35DE, the 300v had 5000 miles put on it, and the 8100 had 4000 miles put on it. They both showed up pretty bad, so I then ran the AMSOIL TSO suggested at the start of the thread for 4000 miles and had another test done by blackstone labs, it showed up much better. In my mind, by those results, it's shown that those 2 motul oils did not preform very well in a daily driven NA VQ35DE. I am currently running Schaefer's oil, and it has not reached 4000 miles of usage yet, when it does I will also run a UOA on it and submit it to the thread.

The oils may perform quite differently under significantly shorter usage and high stress applications, especially if FI or built motor, since they are an ester based stock (which is explained in the thread that resolute posted if you are willing for the long read). We have yet to see any evidence of the oils in those situations. But for a daily driver, neither seem to be very good.

 

man it seems like there is no deffinite answer to this. and its not just a thing of everyone saying their favorite is the best. It's more like some people are saying certain oils are good while others are pointing to evidence that they aren't (like with the Motul). I guess I just need to stick with mobile 1

 

love my motul 300v ... generally highly regarded by just about everyone, used in forged performance motor builds I think

NA me,an always 5w40 300v and 75w140 300v on the lsd and 90PA to the gearbox.Also inugel to the radiator

 

I switched to Rotella T-Syn 5w40 to see if it fairs better than the 300V. a few hindred more miles, and I'll send this oil off to blackstone for lab results.

I have heard of alot of serious drag cars (2000+ HP) running the rotella these days. Turbo Diesel OIl FTW.

I was thinking: Quantum Electro Dynamics... but only because a room mate of mine at CU who was a dual bachelors: applied mathematics and engineering physics, had a book for his quantum electrodynamics class that had the title Q.E.D on the cover with big giant letters and one of those really cool looking artistic portrayals of a quasar. lol (he said he was one of the hardest classes he's ever taken btw)

 

well I ordered 5 litres of 300v so I'm gonna give it a try

 

300v and 8100, very overrated for daily use. mobile 1 0w40 or castrol german syntech 0w30 are much better choices. pennzoil platinum 10w30 is close second to those 1a and 1b. if i had to beat the crap out of the car for track day maybe the 300v would be a good choice but i would change it out right after that for daily use if i were to even do that. dont get me wrong, the 300v and 8100 are high quality oils but they just do very well in our VQ's.

 

for ***** and giggles I'll get the Blackstone report done on my motor at the next change interval. Having recently hit 2500 miles on my new built NA motor, I switched from the GTX I was using to break it in, to Royal Purple XPR 20w50. My understanding is that this is not at all the same as the std. Royal Purple stuff, but I really am not an oil expert. I simply asked the machinist what to get, he told me this, so I got a case At ~$10.00 a quart + the $16.00 WIX filter, I think I liked my Valvoline sponsorship deal better (oil was free!), but what can ya do lololol

I am using Motul now in the tranny and rear - tranny is a bit harder to shift now that its cold out with the Motul vs what I previously ran (which I cant even remember!)
