Nismo cams advance or retard
Im swapping a VQ35 in my S13 using the old VQ30 timing chain and ECU setup. This means no VTCs like on a 350z. So the intake cams are not variable. In order to use VQ35 stock or aftermarket cams, this setup requires drilling a new dowel pin hole in the 2 intake cams.
While tearing down the engine I decided to add Nismo 262 cams (10.5 mm lift) to justify the tear down. The cams I bought were incorrectly drilled. So I decided to take the opportunity to play with cam timing and overlap.
Since the car weighs 2200 lbs and that the gearing is insane, I want to optimise top end at the cost of everything else.
What are your thoughts about retarding the intake cams by about 15 degrees and retarding the exhaust cams by about 20 to increase overlap.
