A few hours ago I picked up my car from nissan for 2 things,

1st problem was that the transmition would make an odd clicking sound at idle and it would rattle very loud when I turned off the car. I was pretty sure this problem was related to the throw out bearing. Nissan didn't want to rebuild the transmition so they decided to replace the entire thing. While they were doing this they realized that the clutch was shot also. So they gave me a brand new clutch. They told me that the clutch and transmition are '06 specs.

I just bought the car about 1 week ago, it's an '04 with 21k miles on it.. It sucks bringing it back so early but hell, it's a whole new transmition, so that's ok.

The 2nd problem was the clicking rear axle, which seems completely gone now.

But my question is, the clutch feels extremely soft now.. It engages great and feels awesome but it's much softer then it was before. I think it's actually a little softer then my old scion tc. Is this normal with '06 transmition/clutches, or should I be worried?

 

Also, is there a break-in period for a new clutch?

 

That's how the 06's are. Chances are they used a pressure plate and clutch from an 06' as well. They did with both of my new tranny's and yes it was much softer then my original one that was in the car when i bought her. You'll get used to it eventually, esp if you drive aound town alot. I have been told no break in period. But i just took it easy for the first few hundred miles or so. And you'll prob smell a burning smell for a month or so after you get home from driving it. It's not the clutch. They coat the outside of the new trannys with a type of wax to prevent corrosion from the factory. Freaked me out on my first new tranny, went away after a month or so. Esp noticed it after interstated driving.

When I bought my 06, the dealer told me the smell will happen around 100 miles. It did happen around 100 miles, but it went away after a while. Nothing to worry about.

You shouldnt smell too much unless you are overly feathering / riding the clutch...

The new Pressure Plates have a different spring design... The clamping force is pretty much the same... There is a 130kg difference thats about it...
