Default Buy a used clutch and/or flywheel?

I've seen a lfew people selling used clutches and was wondering if anyone had input on buying used clutches or flywheels. Thoughts?

well, unlike many parts, clutches do have a life. You might get lucky and get one new in the box or barely used. On the other hand, you could be buying a paper weight

Not for me, on top of Z1's comment clutch life can be shortened by a huge amount by abusing it. I've seen some fs posts listing "only xxxx" miles on it, but that really doesn't mean **** if you got someone that slipped the hell out of it for those xxxx miles. I'm sure there are some deals out there, but you just can't ever tell.

I would not buy a used clutch, there are just too many "what-ifs" involved.

A flywheel on the other hand is a different matter, as many can be resurfaced.

Ditto...
...and used clutch involves a good chunk of labor. So If you're paying someone to do the work... Besides who wants to go through the trouble anyway when you can place a brand new one back on and not have to worry about it for 70k+ more miles.
Again just too many what-ifs

Also, the clutch disc may look okay, but an abused pressure plate could go unnoticed. The glazed surface would not allow a smooth engagement.

For the amount of money you will be saving on the part... You will be paying that only that much sooner to install another set up when that one wears out...
