Cams, 3.9 Final Drive Gears and Clutch & Flywheel
Ok I pretty much have all the breathing mods. Any suggestions or opinions to an order I should get and install the following mods? Does it matter? I also have a Unichip, would I have to dynotune it again with these mods?
- Tomei Cams
- Central 20 3.9 Final Drive Gears
- JWT Clutch & Unorthodox Racing Flywheel
Thanks in advance.

A camshaft install would be a lot more work and a retune would be required.
Any reason you would want to install a 3.9 gear set?

i think everyone's pride and ego get partly in the way in regards to the tilton. It's easy for people to want to say "uh yeah it's uh really easy to drive. I got the hang of it in 5 minutes."
you do get the hang of it pretty quick, but it feels like you're walking on eggshells in traffic. You have to be so quick to not stall the car and to give yourself enough time to drive the car from a stop. From a stop you have two choices: jump out really quick with an aggressive start and just fly as you get up to speed, or slooooowwwly slip the clutch to get it to grab and then go. In traffic you can't jump out and do an aggressive launch because you'll hit the car in front of you. So you end up bracing your body and very carefully do your footwork like a surgeon would to get the car to carefully start moving.
If you're driving fast on a track though, it's just awesome
It has its good and bad days. Some days it feels ok to drive and others you'll stall 3-4 times in traffic and start getting pissed off. I've had many points where I actually dreaded driving my car. I'd rather take some other car instead of my Z just because I didn't want to deal with the clutch that day. If you ever wear big boots or shoes for anything, forget it. It's actually a safety hazard to drive in traffic with big clunky shoes with the tilton

ACT has been ours - more torque capacity than just about any other single plate clutch out there, 2 flywheel options that are both 1 piece billet chromoly, and WAY quieter than any of the 2 piece flywheels
ACT prolite and 6 puck SPRUNG would be perfect, the flywheel is 13 pounds.
pm me if you are looking for one, i am building my personal NA car again and probably lean towards prolite with 4 puck or 8 puck, but i dont ever drive it.
thats if i cant find a tilton combo pretty cheap through some hook ups...

at idle after hard driving and below 2k when there is load on it, it has the gravel sound but it isn't obnoxious and depressing the clutch gets rid of it.
I'll also say that would be my first mod over any of the others...
cams won't give you enough of a gain to support the price you'll pay for them and a 3.9 final drive is the same thing... it's alot of labor which equals big money. for the gain you will get I think the clutch flywheel you will see the value in more.
I would also choose cams over a 3.9 anyday. and don't choose cams by manufacturer but by specs... you need to match the profile to the powerplant you are building to keep your drivability and also to maximize the gains. I would look into cleaning up the heads while you are at it. maybe some extrude honing? or buy a second set of used heads and build them!!
I would wait on a 3.9 until you drop in a LSD and do it then.
