Default Clutch stuck briefly

Tell me if this has happen to you or what likely happened. I was practicing my drag launch and on the first try I reved it a little high but I started to slip the clutch like you should and the revs went up faster than normal, so when I went to go to 2nd gear I notice the clutch was not fully engaged. It was at half way point. So I changed gears and drop the hammer but the revs sky rocketed up again. Then I got out of it and put it in neutral and saw the clutch was stuck half way then a couple of seconds later I felt the clutch pop out and hit my foot. That's when I smelled the clutch burning. Why did it get stuck half way? I did two more launches five min. later and everything was perfect. Is this a possible slave cylinder mishap or what?

I should also state the car only has 12K miles on it and it hasn't been abused to bad.
