Whenever you change the ring gear and pinion, the shims will need to be changed/adjusted/set to that particular gear set. It's recommended that you replace the bearings if you have over 30k miles or so (as long as you're in there), but it isn't absolutely neccessary.

? install on either a Cusco or NISMO is the same

adjusting them is also the same

internally they are not the same though (been discussed)

So they both have to be shimmed?
Plates must be removed from both to adjust lock %?

install on any of the LSD's is the same, regardless of maker. It is not easier nor harder to install 1 or another

the NISMO and Cusco diffs are very similar, though the Cusco is far smoother to engage and far quieter. To change lockup, you must rarrange the disk plates. To change LSD action from 1.5 to 2 way, you simply turn the "cam" (accessible from the outside of the diff my removing one of the output shafts)

The primary advantage the NISMO has vs the Cusco is only applicable, IMHO, to base owners, as the NISMO comes with the parts needed for the conversion. The Cusco requires extra parts (all layed out on our website, and we do packages that come with all that is needed).

But, it's how the 2 diffs behave in the real world that set them apart.

Gotcha. I have a track so I don't need the stub axles. What's in the installation kit?

if you have anything except a base, no other parts are needed to install the diff.

I've been doing research, nismo lsd comes with everything you need for ~$1100. The cusco rs lsd with all the parts you need for the install for the base model is ~$1300. Now the $200 difference if its worth to you will give you a quitier lsd and "smoother" engagement. Although with the nismo, add in the right diff oil your lsd is suppose to sound like stock but the engagement is more aggressive. That i can live with, its just the matter of adjusting and refining your driving.

So it really depends how much you want to spend if you have a base. If you dont have a base its a no brainer to go with the cusco rs lsd.

I actually did replace all my shims and seals. I figured since Im tearing it apart anyways, it wont hurt to replace them and keep the car maintained. The 3.7 ring and pinion will drop right in.

As far as cost wise? Well besides the ring and pinion itself, the other replacement parts shouldnt run you anymore than $200-$300 depending on if you have a VLSD or non LSD.

The CUSCO was more suitable as my car is a daily driver and I needed something slightly more quiet. Plus I have the CUSCO on special right now for much cheaper than the NISMO.

What year and make of nissan do the 3.7 come out of? I bet i can find these cheap in a junkyard. If these did come out of a nissan truck there are lots of aftermarket gears made for frontiers.

Is this the same rear-end being used by the new 07 g35 sedans?

Holy cow! That is a nice price for a 3.7, even if it ain't a 3.9.

As for Andy's setup, here is some math that I THINK is correct:

3500 engine rpm = 3889 driveshaft rpm if in 6th gear and ratio is 0.90:1 = 1051 tire rpm if gearing is 3.7.

Since Andy's tires are 255/35-19, that would be 81.8 inches per rotation, or 7164 feet per minutes.

This actually equals 81.41 miles per hour. However, make sure the gear ratio I quoted on 6th gear is correct.

This really seems very high to me?!?!

Ive been racking my brain on this as well and I cant figure out why my RPM's are so high. I have no complaint though cause acceleration seems to be an improvement.
