Tranny grind?

Default Tranny grind?

I'm trying to establish what constitutes a grind in our trannys. When I put it into first, its difficult, move to second, it sounds like i'm dropping 500lbs of pressure into the tranny and it clunks (sounds like some serious positive engagment), then to third, its smacks somethin again.

Each time there is an "engagment" noise, however not griding like everyone claims, is there a distinction and could someone please humor me as to what it is?

I've even rev matched on UPSHIFTS! and still have tranny noise, I just can't make sense of it...

The 350Z transmission can best be described as notchy. The shift gate allows little room for play. This is not a mechanical problem, just an attribute of the drive train. Grinding is different. How do you tell the difference between notchy and grinding? Know your car.

i took mine in last week for the same exact thing. going into second gear was garbage. I was just skipping 2nd most of the time. Nissan is putting in a new trans on monday now. .Pain in my ***. im putting in new clutch and pressure plate as well

ps. if you still have powertrain warranty. call up 1800nissan1 and talk to a specialist and tell them. they usually get stuff done for me.

I'm not sure if my gears "grind" I have no weird noise when I shift but sometimes it's really hard to shift from 4th to 5th (like the shifter doesn't want to go in). Does this constitute as grinding?

I was actually wondering this myself, tx...

just bought an 07 and it's been a looong time since i've driven stick, got used to it real fast though

first thing i noticed was the gates do seem really small
