Thumbs up Just installed the Q-Shifter!!

Super easy to do... the hardest part is first getting the shifter **** off but from there it's cake.
I got the Ti version.
It's a very attractive piece with excellent workmanship.
It's a very attractive piece with excellent workmanship. Did I just say that twice?? Well it is.

As far as shifting effort goes I'm having a hard time telling the difference. If I were on a first test drive I dont think the now-required effort would even cross my mind.

Shifting feel is excellent. The shorter throws give the shifter gates more definition. Like Dweeb said in one of his posts... when you put it in a gear, you know you are there. Also, it feels like the 2-3 and 4-5 shifts have a more defined and positive path. I can feel a noticible difference from stock there. Especially from the 2-3 shift since it naturally wants to go to 3rd.

I think I read the total difference form stock throw is about 1.6 inches. That might seem like a lot at first but after driving around for a while I have totally adjusted to it.

I can definitely live with this mod from now on without a second guess.

Please don't get me wrong about the improvement. I didn't have a problem with the stock shifter. Not a bit. Actually I have only driven one car with what I thought had a short shifter. It was the MR2 turbo. It's shifter seemed to need to be bent into gear.. without effort of course. Like grinding something in a mortar and pestle. No shoulder effort required. I thought that's what this shifter would be like but it's really just an improvement on an already top notch product.

I recommend this product without reservation. However..... about the original non-coated Ti pivot ball being scratched by the plastic enough to create a rough surface which can lead to harder shifting.... I wish I would have known the potential before I made my purchase. I guess time will tell if the coating will protect it.

With some of the tranny issues floating around out there..couldn't this cause a warranty problem?

Default Thank you

Judge,
Thank you for your words.
As for the Ti-N coating, it is just a precautionary measure. The shifter that I took out of my friends car was there for 4 months, and it only had a bit of scratches, and he never noticed any difference in the shifting force required. But me being me and being as **** as I am, I just wanted to make it perfect (or as close as I can make it) so, that is the reason for the coating, just preventative maintenance/measure.

Cheeves,
There is now way that a dealer can say that a short shifter caused your tranny to go bad, or/and void your warranty do to you changing a shifter. You are not opening the tanny and/or putting something in it. All the shifter does is move/modify the “pivot” point. If you still don’t feel comfortable with it, don’t do it. But you may get more of a “void warranty” chance from changing your air filter to an NON “OEM” brand. I know few people who had their MAF/MAS sensor damaged by the oil in some after market air filters (you know who the maker is). That voided their warranty on the MAS sensor.
Heck, if something goes wrong with the tranny, it is its internals fault, not yours, or the shifters. If you have any tranny problems, you can always put the stock shifter back in before you bring it to the dealer.

Just my $0.02 but ... If after I install my Q Shifter I develop any tranny problems I will put the stock shifter back in BEFORE going to the dealer.

I dort of doubt they would void the warranty over the shifter, but the installation of the shifter is pretty simple and quick, so better safe than sorry in my book.

I don' think this is a big problem, but really, putting the stock shifter back ain't no biggie in my book.

Judge, thanks for the great review. I'm anxious to hear what more people have to say about it.

Do you feel the need to adjust the clutch pedal at all? I recall someone posting on Dweeb's other Q-shifter thread about making adjustments to match the shorter throw better.

Having a shorter clutch throw would be nice but since I dont track my car I dont think it would make much of a difference for myself. I would however try that mod if I wouldn't be out too much money if I didn't like it.
