This occasionally happens to me. Not cool when it happens but it's only few and far between so I'm relatively happy with my B&M short shifter.

i just installed mine in my 07 z and filed everything down like it said and everything works just fine for me. just remember you have to put the silver plate back on it to align it real well and the best way to do that is to make sure the plate is loose then shift into fifth gear and set the top right part snug up against the shifter while its still in fifth. thats what i did and everything seems to be working really really well for me i havent had one problem yet (knock on wood)

Don't go back to stock. Just install it right (exp the brass shifter limit plate). Then add a weighted shift **** to suppress any vibrations and you're good to go. The RAZO DRIFT SPEC RA117 Shift **** is a perfect set up on the medium height adjustment. No rattle and a very, very smooth feel.

I've had my B&M for 2 years now and it's one of the best mods I've ever done. I posted a couple of messages on this board a year or two ago about how to install the shifter properly.

It is probably the guide plate not being properly installed, you have to get it to where it goes into 5th/6th easily then tighten down.

The other thing you have to learn is not to push downward on the shifter as you slide it from 4th to 5th. That will push the tang on the base of the shifter under the guide plate and you get caught in the gate that goes to the reverse gear. Just develop a natural smooth shifting motion without pressing down.

If you got an old version of the shifter, the tang is too small. The new version that came out 2 or 3 years ago has a much beefier tang.
