Jebus 1420 for a LSD. Might be worth the price though. I like my Nismo 1.5 but it bucks and pops sooo much in everyday traffic.

since no one else asked, and you can't answer the question without knowing, I'll ask

what model car do you have? base? enthusiast or higher?

Second, what are you using your car for? Everyone always says 'street and track' but honestly that means nothing - how much street? how much track? r compounds? street tires? are you a nasa/scca licensed driver or are you just doing the club type events? What are your plans in terms of other mods down the road?

Only after addressing these questions can you define what the "best" is for you

The two I would look closely at, are the Carbonetics/ATS Carbon diff, and the Quaife. Those are the only two units that are both flawless on the street, but also well suited for the track. Nismo, Cusco, and others, tend to have varying levels of noise and grabbiness, particularly in tight corners. On a road course, all of those diffs would be fine, but if you want something that is also smooth on the street, then Carbonetics and Quaife are the ones. Carbonetics is a clutch style LSD, so it does lock. The Quaife is a helical gear style LSD, so it never actually locks, and is seamless in operation. The only drawback to the Quiafe, is the price, and the fact that if you lift an inside wheel mid corner, then you have an open diff situation.

On the track, I prefer the Carbonetics/clutch style LSD.

I'd agree except that the Cusco in particular need not be intrusive...just have to set it up correctly and use the right fluid

We've tried 60% lock and Motul 90A and its definately better....but not as smooth as the Carbonetics.

Being that very few, if any, people on this board have tried all the LSD's to even know the difference.

maybe you are thinking of the cusco mz type instead of the cusco RS type. i have mine set to 100% 2way and its very streetable and very quiet, although i havent driven/heard a ats unit yet.

no, Sharif is talking about the RS and he happens to be right. There is a difference between streetable and seamless. If the customer wants seamless, as in, I can't tell its even in there, then the Quaife is the way to go. However, to do a Quiafe on anything but a base model gets very very expensive, especially after install is concerned.

The Carbonetics is also very quiet (we've used it), but it's biggest downfall, as far as I see, is that it only can be set to 100% lockup, where the Cusco offers 60%,80% and 100% ranges depending on the orientation of the disks. In addition, the Cusco is adjustable to 2 way as well as 1.5 way, something I don't think the Carbonetics can do (correct me if i am wrong Sharif...I've only ever used it out of the box).

You are right Adam, the Carbonetics needs to be purchased as 1.5 way or 2.0 way. They offer both. There is a parts kit to switch between the two, but its not as easy as the Cusco, where you just change the orientation of the plates. It is my understanding that Carbonetixs uses 100% lock for max performance, and since there is no streetability drawback, I suppose that makes sense.

Others should take note....vendors can have orderly and respectful debates and discussions without bashing each other.
