Im not sure if its normal or not, but when my rpms reach 2-3k in first and second gear the engine sounds like its really whining(high pitch whine) and then it fades out when i pass 3k. Im not sure if its been getting worse since I bought the car but I havent really paid attention to it until now. I have an 03 touring 6-speed with 62,000 miles. Does anyone else's z make this sound, is it normal?

 

Are you sure this isn't the transmission and the engine noise from 3k rpm and above isn't just drowning it out?

your probably right, because the engine and tranny does get loud.

 

that sound more like a tranny whinne...pretty normal

 

If that's the case, there's nothing to worry about- the transmission on this car is loud as hell.

It could be the transmission, don't worry about it.
