Wow. Don't know. Get a quote and make sure to post up. I'm curious what a dealership would charge for this.

Im not goin to take it to the dealer to get it fixed...my buddy owns a transmission shop, and my other friend is gettn a new clutch put in his 350, so im goin to have him put in the new seal and see how much he would charge to do it all im sure it will be ALOT cheaper than stealership...

It would be similar to the time required to replace the flywheel plus an hour or so for the removal of the rear seal, cleaning of the area to remove RTV and reinstall of the new seal.

check the type of fluid leaking.

I have a leak that I thought was my rear main seal but it turns out its gear fluid. if it was a rear main leak it would be engine oil leaking.

Common to get rear main seal leaks as engine age and blow by increases.

Do you park overnight flat or on an incline?

I currently have this same leak and the dealership verbally quoted me $800. But, at least they are giving me a loaner car to beat on for the day.

I had the rear main oil seal replaced on a 2000 saturn. it was 300.00 in labor and like 15.00 for the part. vehicle wasn't a z but now you got some $ figures.

Get a second opinion, sounds like a possible dealer BS story to me.

the vq rear main comes with the aluminum plate from nissan wich mates with the oil pan, the right way to change the part is to also drop the pan because during assembly the rear main goes on before the pan ,i have cheated them before but it's not easy.you either have to pop the new seal out of the new plate without damage and install in the old plate or trim the oil pan to rear main seal and lever the new plate in ...niether are very attractive but neither is dropping the pan!
