Nice! Are you going to dyno? Or just butt/ET dyno? I know you have experience with this type of mod, what are the dangers from harmonics? Do you feel that this is any easy plug n' play mod? I'm very interested myself, but glad to see someone do it that has experience. Good luck!

Just install it and track.

$60 before $60 after and wouldn't be worth it.

I bought it for looks and maybe a .1 in the 1/4.

I'm not worried about any drivability issues, if their are I will remove them and or post them.

Thanks!

One thing I have to research was no belts were included.

Looks like stock for the Crank and these numbers listed for water pump and alt

Alternator & A/C

2002 Gates K060408

Power Steering

2002 Gates K040300

Do those Numbers look familiar to anyone and what are the stock sizes?

Think I could get these locally? That's all I could find for the 3.5 L Nissan on UR's website.

I wasn't sure what you meant by this: is it the price to have a shop install, then uninstall?

This is a mod I'm interested in, but I know little more than what I've read here in the forum from others with interest and stuff from UR's website. Can you perhaps share from any previous experiences you had with pulley upgrades?

Thanks. Hope everything works out well, MaxHax, and that you get that .1 drop you're looking for.

He means to dyno before and after. $60 to dyno for him.

Ohhh... I gotcha. I didn't know the dyno costs (haven't done it before, obviously). Thanks for the clarification.

Suppposed to go on today if everyone shows up.

I found both belts at Kragens.

You also need ant sieze.

I'll follow up with results and pics.

Yeah he's right I meant 60 bucks for the Dyno.

Dyno's really stress your car when it's tied down trying to go as fast as it can but not move lol.

I try to only do it for major mods. This is a minor one for me, I don't expect huge gains but it's a good mod and will give me that tenth!

UR has them 10% for the month of May if you want them May is a good month. They look really well made and man are they light!
Mine are Blue. I'm thinking of finding that thread on that polished intake now that would look sweet in my bay! Did anyone ever order one of those polished intakes?

Default Thanks for inquiring with interest!

The Auto needs a special tool I got from the dealer today for the fly wheel to keep from turning we were going to use air tools but are doing it buy the book.

Thanks to Turner Nissan for supplying the tool for free (never used and fresh out of the box!)

The tool is in my hands now and I am waiting for Brandon to come help me, my car is on jacks right now with the belts off and the starter pulled. Perhaps my two day install ordeal will help others prepare? We think we can do it without lifting up the radiator which will save lots of time!

Here is where I am at so far though.

Pulley's out of the box

Nice shot of engine looking down at the stockers!

http://home.attbi.com/~wegetourmail/...ID-698384.html

After shots review etc to follow!

Edit add;

Restarting install in 15 minutes (he's on the way.)

Default TTT Mission Acomplished thanks Big Bad B!

Review>

Well it's only been half a day so I guess It will have to be TBA for now, bottle is empty but at 70mph ZERO vibration and an absolute joy to drive.

Nothing negative to say except instructions need work and I am in communications with UR on that.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and start on this page.

Enjoy!

Till Wednesday track night not much else to say!

Peas!

OK,

I went for a 2 hour ride, it was amazing. The ride shows dramatic gains. I drive this car daily and the torque and HP were very noticable (all motor.)

The difference in power is immediately noticable and there are no stalls, creaks, shutters, sounds, vibrations at all.

I sent a very nice email to 2 different departments at UR thanking them and I am going to try and meet their requirments for full sponsorship.

The install for the 6MT (which most here have) is different than the A5T.

You have to lift out the radiator (2 very light electric fans), pull the starter, jack up the car and do the work from the bottom and top (and my car is lowered!)

I give this mod 5 stars and wish I would have dynoed now it's more than I expected and I didn't use the alt pully (check the private classified it's for sale)

My butt SOTP meter only registers 10HP or greater per numerous vehicles and numerous mods so I would HONESTLY say their Dyno is right on the money and I don't usually put stock in those numbers (and I am on record here as that often.)

Dyno claims 10RWHP, 9TQ.

My car has that and more because after we test drove we did some classified stuff too. This is one TORQUEY A5T on the motor I tell you what!

UR UD Pulley's 5 stars!

Chestbo it's a very good match, and the Ultra SS set has Water Pump, Alternator and Crank.

For 6MT you will need a 3/4 impact gun, for A5T you will need a fly wheel pully holder thingamabob (even the dealer didn't know what to call it yet )

The gains should be linear , because the pulleys reduce rotational inertia.

Why don't you installed the alt pulley?

From UR's website:

The rest of the gains are from underdriving, which accounts for about 15% of the total gains. We do not push underdriving for two main reasons. Our main reason is to keep charging systems, air conditioning, power steering, and water pumps moving fast enough for every day driving. Second, not much horsepower is gained from extreme underdriving.

All of our underdriving is done with the crank pulley, not the accessory pulleys (most applications). This is done so maximum weight loss can be achieved at the crank where most of the horsepower gains are found. The accessory pulleys for most applications are stock diameter. Since our Ultra Accessory pulleys are the same diameter as the stock units, you may install an Ultra Street crank pulley as a first step. Then, at a later date, you may purchase our accessories and install them without having to change belts again (on most models).
Basically the other pulleys are only for looks. I only ordered the crank pulley for now, but I'll get the other ones later.

The size was exactly the same, not sure about weight never pulled the stocker.

I have 1800w stereo system, the bolt didn't want to break loose and we said fug it and called it a day.

My car will never be a show car anyway after some of the things I have done for speed. It was as the previuos guy so nicely posted just an appearance issue and we just stopped and I sold the alt pully for less than cost to a member here.

I figure I got the two most important ones and my charging dips anyway even with 2 farads of capiicitance and a 110 amp alternator!

So if the alt and water pump is 20 % I got 10 % for a total of 90%, works for me!

Ok stupid question here. I only ordered the crank pulley for my car. Do I need to change any belts for it, or will the stock one work?

NittoZ: So, you got the crank pulley coming and your Borla dual? Niiiice... those are both in my future, hopefully end of the summer when I'm back from vacation.

MaxHax: I had a similar question to NittoZ's... I noticed you put the Gates belt part numbers. Would you have needed a third belt had you used the alternator pulley, or just the two you purchased? Also, if you do only order the crank pulley, as NittoZ did, I'm thinking you do need to change the belt, but would you still need to change two, or just one?

Thanks for your reporting and all the great info. Tomorrow's track day, right? Have fun!

You actually need two new belts they both go around the crank pully and as you can see are much smaller.

Have a Kragen's nearby? I will post the part numbers and make it easy for you, I didn't use gates I bought the belts down the street. Kragen's Chiefs, Auto Zone all have them.

Look at the crank pully and notice the two grooves. One belt goes around the water pump the other belt goes around the alt so just changing the crank pully requires two belts also.

If you want the Brand and part number I used (and seems to be a great fit) let me know and I will post the 2 numbers.

The crank itself does not have it's own dedicated belt it just spins the other accesorie belts.

Hope this makes sense.

Hey EJ,

Noticed I missed your call on my cell, was in the shower. Sorry you missed day two! Brandon was in rare form and knocked it out pretty quick and problem free (after I aquired that tool we went on the mission for in the SUV hehe good times) and we watched a DVD and chilled sfter the test drive. Did some other stuff I had mentioned to you to and it turned out great! Shhhh.

Runs great.

Tomorow at 430pm, see you there!

Gonna run?

I would have offered you the alt pully but I know you want silver.

Thanks for the well wishes folks!

Peas!

We don't have Kragen's down here, but we do have AutoZone. Part numbers would be great!

Default Has anyone questioned the removal of the dampener?

Most stock pulleys have a dampener/balancer to dampen any crankshaft vibrations. Does the 350Z's underdrive pulley have a balancer? From looking at the weight of the stock pulley, it may not, but you guys know more than I do about this car. I have a Z32, and our stock pulley weighs about 12-14 lbs for damping reasons.

Many people with high powered Twin Turbos exhibit journal and bearing wear/failure from lack of a dampener. You all might want to check into this on the 350Z.

Just my 0.02 cents.

Concensus is the VQ35 is internally dampened. Therefore changing the pulley would not cause vibration.

But good ole MadHax is going to be our resident Guinea Pig! (not a racial slur. In fact I don't even think he's a cop.)

According to this article, the VQ is internally balanced.
