Default strongly considering FI: goal being (400rwhp)

okay guys i have read alot of old threads and yes this question has been reworded or rephrased a million times but that is the problem i read through so many posts and never got the answer to my question because of people not attempting to do a search so here it is i tried so please don't flame me to bad.

I have a 03 touring (AUTO) Z with nismo exhaust, plenum spacer, and jwt popcharger. I'm strongly considering going FI im looking for about 400rwhp-430rwhp and torque a little below 400 at the wheels because what i understand is that the auto transmission slips pretty bad over this amount of torque. So here are my questions. Oh sorry also on a budget so im looking at about 6,000 with install and yes i will be buying used parts most likely to help my budget restraints.

1. supercharger or single turbo (if so what brand or type) im interested in just straight line performance like the 1/4 mile which setup should produce better times.

2. which setup would be the most reliable with of course a good tune on a stock motor

3. what other things should i expect to pay for that i might have not considered to get to my goal

Fast/cheap/reliable

Pick two.

From what I understand, most turbo kits can potentially cost $6000 to get installed, tuned and running properly. Automatic transmission performance rebuilds can cost quite a bit of money as well...though finding a reputable shop that can build it up solidly is the hardest part.

IMO I think your going to have a hard time getting a turbo setup or a SC setup for 6K.Unless your planning on doing all the work yourself your probably looking at 2-2,500 for just the install and tune. Why not go with a 75-100 shot of N20 since your only looking for that extra power in the 1/4 mile. You should PM RebelinRI (I think thats the way its spelled) and talk to Rob. He just added 100 shot N20 and a good tune and is right at the #'s that your looking for. Plus I'm sure you can get all new products and be under your 6K budget.

Just checked.. RebelinRI made 355whp and 397 tq on a safe tune.

Turbonetics single. Engine will only last as long as your tune is good (and even then it might go). If you get the TN kit, just do the install yourself. If not, with all the supporting mods you need you'll be well over your $6k price cap.

And this topic HAS been covered, with these same exact questions being asked/answered. Your search skills are lacking.

thanks guys i know this has been covered a million times but that is exactly my problem its been asked so much that when i open every thread it says search so i never get the answer to my question because their are to many B.S. threads about it. Is it just me or does in seem like our engines are like time bombs unless you build your engine.

Probably because the car came NA.. built for NA... adding FI to a NA car requires a build to do it right.. try to build/SC or Turbo your car over a longer period of time.. money is spread out more... and then its done right.

It seems like the s/c kits are pretty safe w/o building engine. Power can get to 400 and seems to be reliable. did you see the thread about FI on stock engines? The list is pretty long right now, seems like the guys who didn't blow motor were s/c guys with around 380-410 horses.

+1 Seems like it's been longer than that. Coming fromEwa I been hitting rain every morning for like almost 3 weeks now. It hasn't been too bad, but some days have been heavier than others.

6K is not enough. Aways estimate more for any projects. You're going to have to also buy the little things like gauges. Also unless you are installing the kit yourself, the cost of a good tune and EMS (depending on what you go with) will really test that 6k budget. +1 on the SC vs. Turbo in your situation.

I'd recommend supercharger. single turbo would be even better but maybe a bit more $.

You dont have enough money and you dont sound knowledgable, which is a reallybad combination. You NEED to be ready to drop $10K on a rebuild if/when the inevitable happens, if you cant swallow that dont jump into the water...

I wouldnt buy a used kit... I thought I could buy a low milage kit and get away with it but it was missing many little parts that were needed. Definatly save some more and go with a new kit. and btw TN single....

+1 Buying a used kit as you may encounter either bad parts or a turbo with faulty seals.

does that $10k include the engine built for supercharger AND the kit installed and tuned? If so, then going over 400whp shouldn't be a problem?
