Default Hit Speed Bump = SES & Dead Car -- Any Opinions/Help/Comments?

Edit: **UPDATE** The code is P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

Just like the title says, I hit a speed bump in the parking lot at about 15-20mph and I got an SES / CEL and the car died (in gear)

I tried to start up the car and it sputtered out and stalled again.

My guess was limp mode at first... but I thought the car doesn't usually stall out in limp mode, it just goes really slowly.

Also, it was weird to me that the CEL came on RIGHT when I hit the speed bump.

I was trying to figure out what would cause this, since usually nothing can make the car stall out when it's IN GEAR unless it's the Crank Angle Sensor CEL -- it could be a little loose, and it could've gotten rattled when the car hit the bump.

Anyway, I cannot scan the CEL code because I had to disconnect the battery, pump the brakes, reset the ECU etc. (Resetting the ECU erased the CEL code)

Any other explanations?
Thanks

maybe you damaged an o2 sensor going over the speed bump? That would cause your car to sputter and even stall. I may be way off, but seems logical. Are speed bumps down here are like little mountains that you can bottom out on if you go to fast over. Let us know if you find anything.

I've been over these speed bumps a million times and I don't think it can damage my O2 sensors.

Anyway, that shouldn't cause the car to stall in gear, because the lower O2 sensors don't even affect AFR

Yup, I'd guess O2 sensor or the bump jarred something else on the engine loose. It doesn't seem likely that the loss of the O2 sensor would kill the car.

I remember 97supratt came over to my place and he said "the weirdest thing happened... my car just died in gear" blah blah blah ... I scanned his car with Cipher and it was the crank angle sensor... I'm pretty sure I'm on the money with this one

He got it checked out and it was supposedly loose

Seems like it was just Coincidence. Car doesnt die from a Speed bump or a 02 Sensor.

sounds like you know your next step. If the crank sensor is loose then it is likely the problem will continue. Go ramp over some more bumps

After a couple weeks of the car seeming fine, I got the code again, and this time I managed to get the car running without resetting the ECU.

When I checked the code, it turns out the code was P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. there was also another code under the ABS computer, C1131 with no description. I think it is somehow related, don't know why though.

I took it to Performance Nissan, they replaced some parts under warranty, but now a couple days later the codes are coming back with similar symptoms. I'm taking it back, again... hoping they can figure something out...

I was gonna say I doubt it was the O2 sensors. My friend drove back home without any before hehe.

Whats up Mike,

The crank angle sensor would be difficult to damage with a speed bump because the angle would be hard to get to. If it was the actual sensor then yes the rpm would drop and engine would die in gear.

It could be crankshaft position sensor in the front, but that's a wild guess. Just lift your car and look for some any damage marks. Good luck man.

Ultimate thread revival - this turned out to be a bad solder point with an intermittent failure where the Emanage Ultimate was connected to the patch hardness. Nothing wrong with the EU at all. Plus, it works about 99.9% of the time so probably just a cold solder joint that needs to be redone.

I diagnosed it as follows: I started up the car in a parking space, then I nudged the wire harness, and the car died. Repeat, same thing.

I uninstalled the EU and have been running stock ECU since then, didn't want to risk anymore reliability issues with it and didn't feel like trying to fix all the solder joints.

I may end up doing an Uprev type of tune at some point.

It had nothing to do with the Emanage - it was 100% in the connection to the wire harness

Hey Arin, yep still got it I am now pretty much broke after getting engaged etc. Although I just picked up an Akebono kit.

Also rent is a lot higher here which is killing my cash flow. Then gonna have to save up a bit for the wedding so I'm feeling dirt poor. Sucks, I still have a lot I wanna do with my car.
