I would have a working relationship [developed in advance] with one Master Tech who volunteers to do all your work [a precut deal]............the tech tells the service writer/manager he is your cousin in law or some such bunk. wink wink.

Why people who visit one dealer every 90 days for oil changes and warranty repairs get to know who is who.

Just being JOE BLOW off the street, [first visit] and attempting to bribe people doesn't usually work................ could be a setup is the first thought in the techs mind.

Vehicle cost is the 2nd most expensive item per month for most yet it is treated withOUT forthought and optimization.

it's the low tension oil rings that were used and it blows out the tail pipe.it is a fairly new trend among all automakers to increase fuel economy by reducing reciprocating friction.

Thats really sad, i wonder how they are gonna build the GTR. I have a 04 titan and ive had so many problems with it thats not even funny. All nissan does is replace the bad part with another bad part, they dont find the problem/source of the problem and fix it for good, terrible quality controll from nissan and guess what this will back fire at them.

In my case the oil ends up coming out of the exhaust tip. I have never seen any smoke of any color ever but I know that's where it goes, because the tips turn black sometimes after about a dozen miles. Sometimes I can drive 200 miles and they stay clean other times they may turn black after 5 miles. It's very irratic. Does not drip a drop and it's not burning off on the exhasut or I would smell it.

I've had an oil catch can on for a year and have had to add 4 quarts or so of oil in 12 months and there is maybe a teaspoon of crap in the can at the most, if any. I haven't got around to checking the actuall level because I'm too lazy to remove it.

nissan specs the same rings on the 287 compared to the revup motors. The only difference I have seen is nissan uses a very tight ring gap on the 2nd ring in the revup motors. They run the same gap as the top ring. on the 287, the second ring runs a significantly wider gap than the top ring.

This could definately be the problem. without an easier way for blow-by gases to get down past the second ring, these gases can go back upward toward the top ring....causing ring flutter and sucking oil upward past the top ring and into the combustion chamber.

the oil rings control the amount of oil left on cyl walls, low tension leaves more, standard tension leaves less for consumption.adjusting second ring gap is a way to play with oil control but forces the second ring to do a job it wasnt designed for.if you look at the altima recalls nissan admits the problem.

Mine doesn't consume enough oil to be covered by the TSB... I get barely a tea spoon worth in my catch can after a week or two of driving. But it is still consuming. I love this car, so I'm getting ready to do a complete build on the lower end, and head work/ cams. 300+ whp is my goal.

TIP?!
I do understand the "working guy", but a tip?....
We (rev-up owners) are the ones who paid good money for a faulty engine... Nissan should be tipping us.

I buy all my oil by the case or 200 gallons at a time.

Even 1 quart every 250 miles won't be $800 over 5 years.
Agreed that oil is cheap, but to say that its "hardly worth getting excited about".. is pretty ignorant.

The bottom line is, these engines should not be loosing oil.

Honestly. Im not conerned about the fact that im losing oil. Should it? No. Does it annoy me cleanig soot off my rear bumper? Yes..

But

My biggest thing is if your gettin blow by. Your probably also not putting down the power the engine is suppose to.

First, where are you getting oil for $2? Here in Vegas, plain old Castrol GTX is $3/qt. Synthetic is $6 - $10/qt. Also, money really has nothing to do with it. My brand new $30k+ car shouldn't be consuming oil.

I understand where Q45Tech is coming from on the Tip thing. But honestly.. Do you really expect a pissed off customer whos made 10 trips to the dealership to still not have the problem fixed with no immediate solution.. On the biggest part of the car (the engine) with no reimbursments for your time..

You really expect them to tip? If the waiter told you to hurry the f*ck up and order then rubbed your steak on his genetles would you be tipping?
