Default oil catch can questions

I posted this on the DIY oil catch can post, but there's not too much traffic over there, so I hope it's ok that I bring my questions here:

OK, I might be a little slow on the uptake here.....
For an N/A car, installing an oil catch can will help eliminate oil puddling on the lower plenum. Does this mean it will help keep the oil from blowing by and causing so much black deposit in the exhaust? That's pretty much the only advantage in an N/A car?

And is it possible/desirable to have this catch can drain back into the oil pan? Would that help out with the oil consumption problem? I know I am tired of adding a quart every 10 days.
