Default Extended Warranty = Crap

Well i dont know if theyre just trying to rip me off or what but i just purchased extended warranty(GOLD PACKAGE) for my Z last week and there are couple of things wrong with it. I think the clutch is worn out becuase the engagement point is really high and the car shakes on first gear whenever I slowly disengage it. they said that the warranty will not cover the clutch. And also my passenger side window wont completly shut so everytime i go
60mph+ it makes noises. and the service dept also said that, warranty doesnt cover that! Well do you guys think the extended warranty is worth it?

You have to read those things carefully. I thought the Gold Warranty was the one that covered just about everything, but IIRC, it cost a whole lot more than $800.

Most of the time, extended warranties cover only major components, much like the powertrain warranty does.

Read the fine print and have a lawyer rewrite it in laymans terms so you realize what you get.

The brand new oem warranty doesn't even cover wear and tear items unless they are specifically listed.

People often think shocks are covered, they are only if they leak fluid or break in half............not the day by day progressive wear out. Same with hundreds of rubber bushings, belts, hoses.

I know of no vehicle manufacturer that covers clutches beyond 12k or 1 year.
Can you name one?

I think BMW is the only car company that offers that. They replace the clutch on the SMG transmissions well over 1 year. One of my friends did it under warranty. Plus they have free maintenance which is a great deal.

No offense but who could possible think a clutch would be covered under warranty??? Do you also think brake pads should be covered?

Think about it for a minute. If someone bought a brand new car they could fry the clutch in just a few thousand miles by beating the crap out of it. I've read reviews in car magazines when the testers fried the clutch while testing the cars for 0-60/1/4 mile times.

Wear and tear items are not covered under any warranty! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

A defective clutch is covered, a worn out or abused one is not.

Exactly! It is very easy to tell when a clutch has been abused. I've seen some that were literally shredded and the flywheel/pressure plate had turned blue from overheating!

Unless it's a bumper to bumper warranty an ext warranty is worthless! Even then they are not going to cover wear items such as a clutch.

If you just bought your car last week and you are having problems with it then yes they definately should fix it.

Did you buy it from a used car lot or a new car dealer?

I purchased the extended warranty for my Z and found out the hard way that is was a bunch of garbage. I had syncro problems in my trans and by the time I got it to the dealer, I was about 7 miles past the regular warranty and they told me that the extended warranty will not cover the syncros. I called the main branch of nissan and they gave me the same thing. When I talked to the service manager at the dealership, he told me that the extended warranty is the worst thing you can get since nissan seems to find a way to get out of honoring it 9 times out of 10. So my opinion is that the extended warranty is not even worth the time to look at.

OMG They called me again and they said just to take a look at the clutch, its going to be $790.00 and to inspect the window, it'll be $90.00. This is BS, Honda never gave me a hard time. Free Inspection.
