Synopsis: I purchased a pumpkin w/ VLSD and 4.083 FD gears already installed (highly recommended for DIY) Swapped it out today in about 3 hrs. Upon reading various other reviews, I didn’t have my hopes up too high for this “amazing” transformation.

Verdict: It was amazing! The car pulls so much harder with the perfect launch. This is great mod for those who plan to stay N/A. Even my homie who rode in my car various times said there was a noticeable change in acceleration. Since I now have a LSD, I have to relearn how to launch with the new components as the rear end doesn’t break loose as easy as before. To give you an understanding of the change, just imagine all the gears you have now shifted one time to the right (or left, whatever you prefer). 6th gear now feels like how my 5th gear used to feel, and so on.

Street wise: First gear is a blur, though you need to pay attention because redline comes up rather quickly (8K redline). Second feels almost like first gear, third is a fast gear also. One thing I did notice, my speedometer is off about 3-5 mph below what is showing on the tach. Any fixes for that? Highway driving is manageable. There's enough power to pass without downshifting while cruising in 6th. Haven't gauged my fuel efficiency yet, but doesn’t seem like it will be bad at all.

Track wise: No real review but my best was 13.51 without LSD/gears. Factoring on what some folks with gears showing .4-.5 track time savings, I may be staring at possible high 12's. Unfortunately, our drag track is closing due to not making enough bread to stay open. I may roll to Texas Motorplex in Dec if it is still active. Updates once I get to a track.
Great review!! This is a mod I defninitely want to get done once I get the money.

I don't know exactly, but when I drove side by side with another car going 45mph, my tach showed I was going 50mph.

No... It's about the same, maybe a little worse. Need to get it looked at or adjusted. Just haven't had the time... Think I'll take a drive up to Injected - Seems that'd be the easiest.

Still VERY happy with this mod though. Worth every penny. :-)

Here is my rundown of the new 4.08 gears:

With my basically stock '06 350Z rev-up 6MT, this is the first major upgrade done. Adam at Z1 really helped me out not only with his knowledge but with regards to my situation, me being so far from the shop doing the install. I tip my hat to him for making the shipping very smooth and easy for me.

Z-Car Garage, located in San Jose, CA did the work, and what an outstanding group of guys (and shop) they have. Being able to actually watch and ask questions directly to professional performance installers was a fantastic experience that will be repeated again. The work was even done ahead of schedule, saving me money by letting me cancel my remaining time on the hotel I had to get. (The shop is about 170 miles from my home).

As for the details...very smooth ride, just like stock. No noise whatsoever. The actual difference from stock gearing to the 4.08 was eye opening in a very familiar feeling way. Feels MUCH torquier. As an earlier post stated, its as if each gear is now one lower. Anyway, I am very pleased with this upgrade, definetly a thumbs up for those of you still on the fence about it.

Here are some numbers:
2nd gear @3000rpm = 25mph
3rd gear @3000rpm = 34mph
4th gear @3000rpm = 43mph
5th gear @3000rpm = 54mph
6th gear @3000rpm = 69mph

Fuel mileage on the way home (taken 4 times): average 28mpg

Derek

Recently installed my 4.08s and I love them. The speedo does read a little high in my car as well, at 45/46 my speedometer's showing around 50, maybe never looked before the install, but definatly different.
