Default SZM Plenum Mod Shoot Out

Seems like this is a great mod, from the dyno I found it shows higher gains with the "MD Basic 1/2", while it seems that most of you have prefer the "MD Basic 5/16" or something similar its size. Why not use the 1/2? Is this dyno off?

Also is this something you can do yourself on a side street? I live a block from Ravens stadium in Bmore, but theres really no traffic on the street..

Looking to get this done as part of my first upgrades, so far I got the pop charger and Im ordering the exhaust on Friday, so I just wanted to see where to go with the spacer...

1/2'' iso thermal spacer...doesnt work with stock strut bar so you will have to take it off and buy an after market one. either way theres only one HP difference.

that makes sense, not worth it for now...so I assume you can put the 5/16 on without making other changes?

Youll be better off with the 5/16 in your case.

Yes you can, you probably won't even notice the strut bar gone.

Yes you will be able to, but your car will not handle as well.

If you can take the engine cover off your car you CAN fit the 1/2' iso thermal on with the strut bar. Ive done it, so i know from experience, just use the strut bar spacers.

I installed my 5/16 myself on the street right in front of my house. Took about an hour or so. Everything came together well and didn't experience any problems after. HP gains were very noticable as well as a big increase in sound. I currently have a popcharger, 5/16, and a Borla td exhaust and it sounds amazing. Hope this helped, good luck!

Wait so just by using a 5/16th inch spacer you seriously see huge gains on this motor?

I used 5/16th" because it fits, and you dont have to remove strutbar or get another one. Besides, I think the gain from 5/16ths to 1/2" is like 1 whp. Not worth losing the strut bar or having to mess around with things to get it to fit.

I have the 1/2 inch MD spacer with a Cusco Strut bar. I planned on replacing my strut bar anyway, so I didn't mind getting it when I got my spacer.

Noticeable difference INSTANTLY, first gear became so much more lively and like someone else said, the tone got slightly better. I currently have that, CAI, and Tanabe HM exhaust and absolutely love it!

So it seems everyone has a noticable change in performance as well as sound. I'm getting more and more intrested in purchasing this.

I have been thinking about this mod as well. Admittingly, I don't know very much about engines and what one part will do compared to another part.

Right now the mods on my Z are a K&N Typhoon CAI, DC Sports headers, Injen SES Exhaust with stock cats. I've been looking at the 5/16 spacer but I'm still very unsure if the mod is worth it. Is there a sound difference because I currently like the way my car sounds and I really don't want to screw it up. If there is a sound difference what is it? I know that the Z's engine is a hard engine to squeeze extra HP out of and I've seen hundreds of dyno charts that prove or disprove gains but all I see are red, green, blue and yellow lines LOL. What do those lines mean when I plant my **** in the seat and put my foot on the gas... does the 5/16 spacers give gains worthy of installing?
