Default i think i'm just being paranoid but...

i just got my '07 z about 4 months ago and it's my first stick shift. i don't know if it's just me being paranoid (being a newbie and all to a manual trans) but my shift **** shakes a lot when i'm in neutral. the other day i drove my friend's evo 9, and his didn't shake at all! (i know, it's probably comparing apples and oranges). he says it's normal cuz of the transmission. i would ask my friends, but none of them have z's, is this normal for this type of car?

yup, normal for all RWD cars. The 350z tends to vibrate more but nothing bad. You are shifting in the tranny. Other transmissions use shift linkages.

lol

yep it's normal...

it's also normal for the transmission to feel notchy, sometimes the gears need to be rotated a little bit for the shift lever to go into gear, so it feels like you need to push through a barrier of sorts

it's NOT normal for the trans to grind when you have the clutch all the way in...

mine also vibrates in all gears and neutral as well. also does have fits of stronger vibration depending on speed and gear but never grinds when shifting so not a worry.
In case you don't know since this is your first manual, always rev match when downshifting, and if find it difficult to get into gear while downshifting, it's probably cause you didn't rev high enough so just give it a little gas and it should go in smooth as butter

My first manual too and 4 months later still finding ways to improve my driving haha

Mine vibrated in nuetral stock.

Now I have solid motor mounts and a light weight flywheel (both of which will make it vibrate more) and it is completely acceptable in my opinion comfortability wise. However I am use to Porsche race cars so this still seems moderate to me.

Solid racing mounts make the entire CAR vibrate not just the stick LOL

Yeah mine vibes, and the tranny makes a lot of weird noises when moving the shifter around. Haha, i'm told thats normal though
