I was getting on the highway this morning and punched it when I hit 40mph. I got this weird smell, like burning and exhaust mixed. Anyone else ever get this?

 

you mean before you car has a chance to warm up?

 

its warmed up, just bought it..... its an '03 touring with automatic tranny.....

 

I get a somewhat sulfuric smell when revving the engine to redline when stopped from the backfire. Perhaps it's the same smell? If not, perhaps your transmission fluid needs a change?

 

thats a possibility...... it has 31000mi on it

 

i get a weird smell too i noticed it this morning and ive had my z for about 2 months..it kinda smells like melting plastic i dont know wat it could be..

 

I get the same smell of plastic. But I know that I ran over a plastic bag and stuck to my Y-pipe. Stinks like no other and its been a couple of months. It caked itself to the pipe. lol

 

I've seen that happen, it wouldn't hurt to look under the car.

And for the record, burnt plastic smell is up there with the stink from friction modifier.

 

I remember reading a thread like this a few years back and I was all like I run over plastic bags all the time and they never stick to my Z's exhaust. An I **** you not that day I drove over this stupid bag and I look up at my rear view mirror and to my surprise I didn't see it fly out behind me. That smell lasted at least a month or two, GOD it was awful. I could smell it in the car,an outside. When ever I parked the Car and came back I could still smell it. It was so obvious something was melting.

you got mods? testpipes smell pretty bad.

 

I was punching it the whole morning, no bad smell...
