Default almost fried my clutch

Well , went last night to an empty parking lot where are currently building a K-mart, and i practiced how to launch my car. i buddy of mine showed up with his EVO, and we did couple of digs. However, this is not a street race, we went 1st and 2 nd only. What happed to my car (which is an 07) is my clutch did not hook up in second. I launched it in 1st pretty good, and upshifted to second, and it would not engage, So i had to let go quickly, well it stunk for awhile, but what the heck was that , i had a pretty good speen in 1st , probably 35-40mph , i dont ride the clutch so it was fully disengaged, and the car just kept going with the same speed as it was moving in 1st. so, what's that ?

Could this be a result of that clutch dampener on the 07's? I haven't seen anything about it other than the one thread that showed it along with people talking about possibly bypassing it.

OP- Your clutch did get fried, that was the smell. You would have to burn the **** out of a clutch to ruin it in one sitting haha (a new clutch, 07 is pretty new), but the more you do it, the shorter the clutch life. I think of it like a brake pad being worn down over time with use. The more the brake pad slips over the rotor, the more it wears, as apposed to just grabing and holding the rotor.
