Yes you can buy it but it will be necessary to buy additional parts vs the trims that already come equipped with LSD. When you do purchase one, contact any vendors here and they can point you in the right direction.

Yeah I would assume I'd need parts, is there a package that I could buy and just get it put on? Sorry for all the questions...I'm a 350Z Noob

I don't know what you mean by package but you need to buy the differential and extra parts for it. I may not be the best one to ask but if you use the search function you can.

Ooh I thought you meant I have to buy the LSD+Parts which I think is what you're saying, correct me if I'm wrong. After you saying it's possible I searched for one so for instance, lets say I bought this>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISMO...QQcmdZViewItem <<...would I just need to buy that? Or that + some parts

stub shafts, thats the biggest thing you will need. You may or maynot need to replace the bearings. Oh and from my understanding the Nismo LSD came with stubshafts. I think that was the only full kit you would nee no extra parts.

Again, its from my understanding. I havent looked into LSD's for over a year now, I have a Tomei Technitrax 2 way LSD and love it. So its a case of: No need to look at other women when you have a beautiful hardcore **** star at home all to your self.

The Nismo kit, the one shown in the ebay ad above, comes with all the required parts for a base model LSD install, you cannot say it needs other parts. THE ONLY possible extra parts the MIGHT be required deal with the chance that during the install process some shims may be needed.

Car's with automatic trannies are a different matter because of the 3.3 final drive.

In making a buying decision you'll want to weigh the $950 cost of the Nismo vs a $1495 Cusco RS LSD (as sold by Z1auto with extra parts supplied for base model cars) or $1430 for a Quaife LSD.

The reason to pay +$500 for the RS vs the Nismo deals with the number of owner comments about the Nismo LSD in regards to noise issues and abruptness in actuation. Just to point it out, the Nismo LSD = Cusco MZ LSD. The RS has a different construction vs the MZ.

The Quaife is not a clutch type LSD, but make sure how it works is right for you. I only wish it's torque bias was adjustable, because it's not I'd prefer the RS or the ATS Carbon.

Guys, thanks for the info It really helps a lot. The only reason I asked this was because when we took it out for a testdrive (it was raining), the tires chirped a lot through 1st and 2nd, I assume the rain has a lot to do with that. I just don't need my car getting totalled for something stupid. I don't plan on driving very hard until I learn the machine. I never had a car without traction control so yeah it just worries me a little. I think I'm going to rule out getting the nismo, as I did hear about how it's noisy and that kind of bothers me. Which LSD should I get if I want to still be able to chirp a little? I don't want to have TOTAL traction but enough that the car isn't going to go sideways if I launch too hard. Sorry for all the questions, just a newb over here.

And I'm picking it up tomorrow, the insurance company we use is closed on Sunday :| I wouldve had it yesterday but the insurance companys computers were down we had some shitty weather all week...ugh anticipation sucks but when I get it..I'm gonna be like omg haha.

Heres a pic of the Z in question:

Grr I have the keys and all but no Z

Thanks "G". I hope I don't sound too stupid, but what is the difference between 1.5way, 2way lsd's? I thought they just basically kept power to both wheels, so as 1 wheel won't spin and the other do nothing.

cpost - whichever diff you decide on, let us know, as we're in NY and either have them in stock (we have Carbonetics and Cusco in stock, as well as the install parts you'll need for your base) and get the Quaife very quickly

If this is a street car that you do not intend any motorsports use for (ie track days), the Quaife, IMHO is your best bet. It is absolutely silent and seamless in it's operation, as if Nissan themselves put it there.

The Carbonetics, and Cusco (and NISMO) are more competition level units, and are designed for cars doing more drag/drift/roadcoarse events, where the adjustability they afford is of primary concern.

Personally, I've got the Cusco one in my own Z, and have had it since ~2004. It is an absolutely fantastic unit, and completely transforms the car (and my car had factory LSD when new). But given your uses, I think the Quaife will be your best bet.

Oooh so you're Adam! I was like hmm who is this guy everyone seems to talk highly of him and his parts. But as for the LSD, if the Quaife will give me what I want; good traction but still some fun, then thats what I'll get. What would be the price for the Quaife including install? What town are you guys in?

I'll PM you price of the unit itself, and I can refer you someplace for the install (we only do work on our own in house stuff)

Okay, thanks

Also, will putting an aftermarket LSD void any part of my warranty? Maybe I could have the dealer put it on? And are clutches under the warranty?

Every dealer is different, but here is what pretty much boils down to the real deal about cars and warranties

1. The law is that in order for a dealer to deny the warranty, they have to prove that the aftermarket part you installed caused the specific problem you are asking them to resolve. IE - if you blow your stock motor, they cant blame it on your aftermarket wheels, or brakes

2. If you are going to mod your car, forget about using the dealer for anything other than buying any replacement stock parts you might need. Factory warranties and modding do not mix. You are always better off using an independant performance based shop for any work that you need done (at least in this area). Are there exceptions? Of course. The dealership by us (Smithtown) is terrific and has done warranty work on many of our customer cars - but, not sure how they are to deal with on a used car that they didn't originally sell

Yeah I'm tight with the owners over @ Smithtown. They did a buncha warranty work on my truck that they probabaly shouldn't of lol. But the car was originally sold by them and now sold to me by them so its all good with that. It came with a 7 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty Butt do you think the clutch is covered? This is my first manual :x so I MIGHT burn it.
