Default Help With Engine Heater

Hey Guys, I have a question about block heaters. I had ordered the OEM one from Nissan and now have questions. MY friend has a Z as well and says the OEM Heater is crap, and doesn't work that well. He told me to look up an inline type heater. I found this one from JCWhitney.com

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...001645/c-10101

I was thinking of getting the 1000-watt one just incase I need to leave in the middle of the night for work or whatever. Will this work? Is there a better one out there that I don't know about? The car will be in Anchorage,AK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have talked to a lot of people that have lived there. The snow isn't that bad, its more the ice. They just said get studded tires and you will be fine. They said you will see people driving there $200k exotic sports cars all through the winter. As long as I don't drive like a jack***, I will be fine. So I just need something to keep the motor warm. Can anyone help me out?

I have never had an issue with a stock Nissan block heater and we see a ton of low temps up here. Just run a thinner synthetic oil and you will be fine.

^^^
Would you happen to know what position the oem heater needs to be in. The directions don't have our motor on it. The dealership by me has no clue how to install this thing. My was going to do it for me, but didn't know the positon. When we were trying to find the answer, we found the other type of heater they say works better.

Important to really really understand that any [even synthetic] oil does NOT have much lubricity until it reaches 100F.

Oil pan heater and coolant heaters are great items in frozen North.
