I haven't changed none of that stuff yet. So, there is no definitive answer to this problem huh? That sucks, cause it's annoying at times.

OP, when your car is neutral... rev it to that range and see what happens. Mine does it in neutral as well.

I'm experiencign this problem really bad. I have an '07 and for the first 5,000 miles it would shift buttery smooth, but now I get the bucking (it now has 5600 miles). It turns out that my clutch is now not gripping at all. Under modest acceleration it starts slipping. Luckily this happened the same week Nissan issued the recall. I think it has something to do with the clutch, since I only started having this problem a few weeks since the clutch and/or slave cylinder started going on the fritz.

Rhythm, have you cleaned the MAF filter like the other poster mentioned? It's possible some oil may have gotten on it which can cause acceleration weirdness.

I have not tried this. Do you have a link to the instructions?

Hmm...have not tried to rev it slowly in neutral. I'm always quick blurps on the rev when in neutral... But I will see what happens. I do know that when I take off normal, and in first gear, I hit this spot, no only does it have a sense of hesitation, but I also can hear the exhaust note change. It kinda has a faint gurggle sound, like a Back Pressure type issue, and a sense of it trying to push through blockage in the exhaust somewhere. Does any of that make sense?

Mine does the EXACT same thing. Its almost like a "dead" spot as if I let off of the accelerator pedal.

I'm gonna buy some MAF sensor cleaner soon and see if that works. I've tried it before and I thought it was fine but maybe it was all in my head.

I noticed my car idles rough compared to other Z's also.

Well, I just got my clutch and flywheel replaced and it continues to do it. Its definitely not a clutch/flywheel issue.

What makes this difficult to diagnose for the group is the fact that not everyone may be experiencing the same problem. Just because the symptoms appear to be similar does not mean they have the same root cause. For blasian, it was not the clutch and he can cross that off the list. I would be more likely to believe something like the MAF or TPS anyway.

I will try switching MAFs once I get one from a friend of mine.

Yea, and a lot more expensive I bet. I wonder if there is anything in common for everyone that has the problem. I don't have the time to do this (or the problem), but a compilation of the year, mileage, mods, etc... may shed some light - a survey, maybe?. There was another thread on this same subject, and it seems like almost everyone with the problem owned a 2007.

Will do man. I have a buddy with a Z that isn't aware of him having this problem. Going to try swapping parts to see if I can come up with anything.

yea thats the way my rpm needle jumps too. and like i said its not everyday. and at random. ill make my way on the freeway with no problems no bucking, but then when i slow down to grab an offramp it will start to buck. then sometimes its in the morning when leaving for work. other mornings it doesnt. but anyway, yes my rpm needle jumps like that also.

Edit:
2007 SMB 350z
4850 miles
6spd manual
X02 exhaust and stereo are only mods.
